A Statistical Validation of Raindrop Technique by David Stewart, Ph.D., R.A.

Abstract

During the past ten years, Raindrop Technique has become a widely used therapeutic protocol throughout the United States. Numerous anecdotal accounts relate the significant and substantive benefits generated by this procedure. Raindrop Technique has been use to ameloriate cases of viral infection, kyphosis, scoliosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and many other conditions.

As its popularity and usage have increased, a small group of aromatherapists has questioned the use of the procedure and its reliance on undiluted therapeutic-grade essential oils. So, in an effort to statistically validate the benefit (or lack thereof) of the Raindrop Technique, I circulated a questionnaire in late 2001 among several thousand aromatherapists, health practitioners, and users of essential oils to poll those who receive Raindrop and those who perform it. This study summarizes the experiences of more than 14,000 sessions of Raindrop. Raindrop Technique

Of the 422 adults who responded to the survey, 370 were female and 52 were male. They represented 39 states of the United States, 5 provinces of Canada, and 5 other countries. 265 were facilitators, 259 were both facilitators and receivers, 157 were receivers only. Among the 416 receivers, a total of 3,584 Raindrop procedures were experienced (mean value = 8.6 treatments each). Among the 265 facilitators, a total of 11,256 procedures were reported (mean value = 42.5 each). Receivers reported their Raindrop experiences to be Positive (97%), Pleasant (98%), Resulted in healing (16%), Felt better afterwards (98%), Improved health (89%), and Improved emotional state (86%). 99.9% of receivers said they would receive Raindrop again.

The differences in the response rates among those who reported improved health vs. actual healing can be due to the subjects’ likely interpretation of the question. “Healing” implies a total resolution of a preexisting disease or health condition, whereas “improved health” merely indicates an improvement (whether slight or great) in health or preexisting condition.

46.2% identified themselves as licensed professionals. 27% were massage therapists (LMT, CMT, RMT). 11% were registered nurses while 1.5% were chiropractors. There was one M.D. and one D.O. who responded.

As for negative responses: 1 in 168 (67 incidences out 11,256 reported Raindrops) considered Raindrop to be unpleasant. 1 in 489 considered it a negative experience. Only 1 in 1,023 said they would not receive Raindrop again. Unpleasant experiences reported (in order of frequency) were: Burning sensation on skin, Skin rashes, Nausea, Headaches, Tiredness. Most identified these as symptoms of a detoxification process. All of these were reported as temporary, often followed by positive results including relief of various symptoms.

Perceived benefits reported (in order of frequency) were: Removed back pain, Stopped cold or flu, Euphoria, Felt energized, Relieved stress or anxiety, General reduction of pain.

The study includes 74 brief commentaries by Raindrop facilitators and receivers that provide insights into the technique, its practice and outcomes, that cannot be discerned from numerical data alone.

The Raindrop Technique, developed by Gary Young and a Lakota medicine man almost two decades ago, uses a sequence of nine highly immune enhancing essential oils. The essential oils are dropped like rain from a height of about 6 inches onto the spine and then lightly massaged in using various hand to body techniques. This stimulates energy impulses and disperses the oils along the nervous system throughout the entire body. Raindrop Technique Essential Oils collection.

We all carry immune system depleting viruses and bacteria. Essential oils applied to the spinal column are absorbed through the nerves that feed the entire body. Wonderfully soothing, nurturing and relaxing, the Raindrop Technique can work its benefits in the body for days, weeks or months. With essential oils applied via the Raindrop Technique, the body can be brought into balance and the energy centers can be cleared and re-aligned. The Raindrop Technique also helps reduce spinal inflammation, creates an inhospitable environment for the viruses that hibernate along the spinal column, and may help to straighten any spinal curvatures. Although a session lasts about 45 minutes to an hour, the oils will continue to work in the body for a minimum of a week following the treatment.

Raindrop success story!!

“I must tell this story to you! Yesterday morning I was standing by my dishwasher, not even bending over, and suddenly felt an uncomfortable twinge in my very low back (not sciatic). I immediately went to put Peppermint and Cistus on with no relief, then Valor…still no relief. I used PanAway off and on 2-3 times during the rest of the day and was still feeling increased discomfort, especially with bending when I went to bed. During the night as I rolled over, the discomfort in my lower back awakened me. I got up and put Valor on and went back to bed. When I got up this morning, I did my usual stretching exercises, despite the pain (about a 5 on a scale of 1-10). Once out of bed, I felt a strong urge to Raindrop my feet, so that’s what I did, just using the usual Raindrop oils and good VitaFlex technique. I experienced almost IMMEDIATE relief and now, 8 hours later, I can say I have little or no pain with activity and bending. Thank God for these oils!!!!” ~ Elaine

Raindrop Technique just on the feet, It’s marvelous!!!

“You apply each of the oils in the Raindrop Kit, one after another, to the feet. If you know Vita Flex (a technique that we use to work oils into the body) use it [it's demonstrated on the video that comes with the kit], otherwise, just rub them on. I would use 3 – 4 drops of each oil on each foot, and use less (1 – 2 drops) of the oregano and thyme at first, because they can heat up on the skin. Also, I know of several people who just use peppermint • oil on their feet when they ache and love the results that they get. My own personal foot story: The day after I returned from Level II, I tripped over a computer cord and broke my big toe and cracked my foot, just below the other toes. I’ve consistently rubbed Regenelone cream and helichrysum on my foot, and occasionally cistus, and it’s healing very quickly. (I’ll do a Raindrop on it today, now that I’m remembering how wonderful it is). I’ve also taken Polyzyme (among lots of other YL supplements) which helps relieve inflammation in the body. Have a Joyful Day,” ~ Vicki

Raindrop and Lyme’s

“I’ve had a bunch of friends who I’ve helped recover from Lyme Disease using weekly Raindrop sessions and taking Inner Defense. They got a Raindrop once or twice a week and took 3 Inner Defense capsules a day. Within a month they got better completely. Nothing much scares us because we’ve got these great products!” ~ Toby S.

Seven Year Old with Scoliosis

Just a note on the progress of Erika, the young girl that you referred to me with scoliosis. Erika is currently a patient at Texas Children’s Hospital. It seems that the doctors wanted to break Erika’s spine and insert a rod to straighten her scoliosis. It DID LOOK BAD! The first appointment was on Dec. 15. I have seen her a total of 4 times and she looks so much better. Her parents have told me she is NOT GOING TO HAVE THE SURGERY. They have seen the wonderful progress with the essential oils. There is only ONE spot that is to the right, we straighten it out and it goes back, not to the same angle, but, not straight! She is no longer in pain at all!

I have suggested that her mom order the [Raindrop Technique] kit and do the RDT on her and come to me for professional treatment only. Her mom is ordering other oils and other items, I think next week. I am still going to see her on a weekly basis right now, according to her mom and dad. I thank you for your confidence in me as a therapist doing the RDT. I really appreciate all the clients that you send to me. Thanks again” ~ Margaret N.

Raindrop with Reiki Revitalizes

“I came to a point in my life where I felt immobilized. I wasn’t unhappy, I was just unmotivated and not living life to it’s full potential. After receiving a Raindrop Treatment I became revitalized mentally, physically, and spiritually. The essential oils and reiki unleashed an energy within my being I never knew existed.

Also I had not been able to get my weight down for over a month. After the raindrop I lost 5 pounds in the next week and have steadily lost weight since the raindrop. This treatment will awaken you to limitless possibilities. I will now be enjoying treatments on a regular basis to maintain a healthy lifestyle and spiritual well-being.” ~ Sarah W.

Raindrop and Back Pain

“For years as a result of a truck accident and lifting heavy objects at work, I suffered from severe back pain. I had much discomfort in the lower back and right hip area. I have visited many a chiropractor over the years seeking relief. After 2 Raindrop Technique sessions my lower back and right hip area realigned, my height increased by 1′ as measured at my annual physical and the pain in the lower back and right hip are pretty much nonexistent.

When I do begin to feel twinges or I know I have over extended my lifting capabilities, I reach for the Marjoram and Basil, or the Panaway and Orthosport. I have also put together my own blend of the Raindrop oils, using one drop of each oil in a base of v-6 massage oil. I will periodically apply this blend to my lower back area and shoulder area in addition to the previous oils mentioned. This was a tip from Dr. Essen and it works great. I love the aroma of the combination of the Raindrop Technique oils.” ~ Paula Q.

Raindrop Technique for Horses

Some of the benefits of Equine Raindrop Therapy according to Dr. Mack: strengthen the horse’s immune system, uplift the emotions, help realign the spine.

She also speaks about it being a preventive medicine as well as therapy. She explains that essential oils are antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, antiprotozoal, and emotionally uplifting, as well as soothing for sore muscles and useful for pulling toxins out of the system.

Performing a Raindrop leaves the horse with an aura that keeps him from getting sick. She has also discovered that Raindrop therapy is helpful before a chiropractic adjustment to relax muscles and realign the spine, and helpful afterward to maintain an adjustment. Equine Raindrop Technique (DVD)

“I knew Trigger probably had colic. When we were done Blaine and I caught him and we saw he really was looking sick. I listened to his stomach and there wasn’t hardly any sound at all. This told us that he had colic. I gave him 20 drops Di-Tone under the lip and 6 drops each of Peppermint and Di-Gize on the frog of the front feet. I gave him 6 drops of Di-Gize in a squirt of OrthoSport in the palm of my hand and I massaged from his flank down under his stomach to help relax the muscles.

In less then 3 minutes he had a bowel movement and there was an increase of sounds in his stomach. After an hour of walking him around he seemed better. Before we left I gave him 40 drops of Di-Gize inside his lip because the people we bought him from only de-wormed their horses once a year. So, we were concerned about the worms causing him to colic. I also noticed that he had a cough. We didn’t have all our oils with us so the next day when we came down to water and check on the horses, I brought the rest of my oils.

Trigger was better but still acted sick so we de-wormed him with 10 oz. of ParaFree. I also applied R.C. and Melaleuca ericifolia on his chest, Raven and Oregano on the frog of his front feet. I did the RainDrop Technique on his spine with Oregano and Thyme, plus he received Di-Gize again.

The next day you wouldn’t believe that he was the same horse! He had a sparkle in his eyes and his cough was gone. He came up to eat his grain and wouldn’t let another horse take his grain. Days before he wouldn’t eat and didn’t care if they took his grain. The essential oils came to the rescue again in saving the life of this horse!” ~ Nancy S.

Massage Practitioner Raindrop Testimonial

“I use Raindrop in my practice and teach classes in how to do it. It’s become the most-requested treatment I offer. People remark that severe pain & emotional balance come quickly from receiving a Raindrop session. It’s also very long-lasting in its effects for nerve issues, lower back pain, inflammation…almost anything.” – Joan A.

Beating the Flu

“It appears that I recently fought a persistent virus. The testimony is exactly the same, ten days of frustration. I had been using the oils and couldn’t seem to break the virus. What was wrong? It was bad. Finally, my lighting fast thinking said, ‘have your husband give you a raindrop.’ That was last night, and I slept the first time in nights without that cough. Also, I used the Thieves Antiseptic spray. Open wide. It seemed to hit the virus right on the head. My lungs opened and I could breathe deeply without a cough. I guess for me it was just finding the right combination of the raindrop and the spray. Today I feel like a million dollars compared to what I have felt the last week and a half.  After struggling for a while with ill health one can really appreciate the oils. Be blessed,” ~ Leota K.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." ~ Dr. Seuss

Grief and sorrow come to all of us at sometime in our lives.  They are not times we care to experience or to wish upon others, but it is inevitable that we will experience awful times of sorrow and grief. To be able to get through these powerful feelings and emotions can be very difficult and even more difficult for others.

5 Ways to deal with grief or sorrow:

  1. Talk to family or friends. Reach out to them, by calling them. It can be difficult to pick up the phone, but it is important for you to be able to have someone to talk to.  If you don’t have someone, call a church or a hospital to find out about support groups.  Yes, it is easier to be alone, and that is OK, but not all of the time.  We do need someone to talk with, or to listen to.
  2. Read self help books or inspirational books that relate to what you are going through. Or listen to them on tape, if you are having a hard time focusing. Listening to the words can be a great help too.  Sometimes this can be a much easier way to take in the helpful words.  We may be able to comprehend better than when we read, because when we are in a deep place of grief it can be difficult to focus on words.
  3. Getting out in nature, going for walks, or even for drives to pretty places, can help us to reflect on the beauty around us and remind us of other blessings in our lives. Remember if you are able to go for walks to breath in the fresh air.  Fresh air is invigorating, intoxicating and down right good for our body and well being.
  4. Aromatherapy is natural way of achieving optimal emotional and physical health. The fragrance of an essential oil can directly affect everything from your emotional state to your lifespan. Thus, a therapeutic essential oil can affect our feelings and thoughts because smell is our most emotional sense. Scent stimulates nerves to fire in the emotional center of the brain, but it also stimulates the master gland to release hormones. Hormones affect the fight/flight response, as well as digestion and heart rate. In this way, essential oils can affect us in many ways all at once, just through their fragrance.  Aromatherapy is a very positive way that may help to heal from emotional pain.*
  5. Raindrop Technique utilizing emotional essential oil blends of therapeutic-grade essential oils, could also be an excellent way to move to healing from grief and sorrow.  Raindrop Technique is a simple practice that can be learned and may be very beneficial for emotional healing and physical healing. (Read my article on Raindrop Technique for Mind, Body and Soul)*

old-growth-cedar-woodsSchizophrenia is one of the top 10 worst diseases, according to the Health and Life medical blog. Those dealing with Schizophrenia, and those dealing with a Schizophrenic loved one know just how devastating this disease can be for everyone involved. A mental disorder can ruin the lives of its possessor and the lives of family members involved. Although big pharma has medication that can help tame the minds and dispositions of those with mental problems, and help them live somewhat normal lives, the medications only provide help when they are taken. Unfortunately, many people with mental problems do not like the feeling they experience while on these medications and they consistently cycle on and off of the medications. Many ask, is there anything naturally that can be done to help these people, and the answer is absolutely!

In the book, Natural Remedies Encyclopedia, an accumulation of heavy metals in the body is said to be one causes of some mental disorders. Copper, lead, and mercury specifically are associated with schizophrenia. Cleansing the body of these metals is suggested. Some people opt for what is called chelation therapy. There is a natural, herbal formula created by Dr. John R. Christopher called Heavy Mineral Bugleweed, and it contains herbs such as Bugleweed Herb, Yellow Dock Root, Lobelia Herb & Cilantro Leaf. These herbs have traditionally been used in cases of alopecia, alzheimer’s disease, copper overload, dementia, hepatolenticular degeneration, senile dementia (alzheimer’s disease), and wilson’s disease.

Yet another factor in schizophrenia according to the same source is mineral deficiency. Zinc (30mg) and 25mgs of manganese are said to be needed to correct this imbalance. The book went on to explain that there is a link between prenatal zinc deficiency and schizophrenia. Magnesium deficiency is also involved, as schizophrenics have been found to have  lower magnesium levels while going through thier worst cycles, and when they recover from spells their magnesium is higher. Also, trace or ionic minerals are said to be helpful as trace mineral imbalances exist in schizophrenics. Young Living provides a wonderful trace mineral formula called Mineral Essence which is also enhanced with essential oils. Essential oils have the ability to penetrate the body deeper, bringing nourishment into the cells.

Diet is another important factor, a 1982 study found that 80% of schizophrenics are allergic to eggs. An optimal nutritional diet, and core nutrients may be helpful in restoring nutrition and supporting a balanced body. Read more on core nutrition here.

Essential fatty acids are said to be another deficiency in schizophrenia and brain imbalances. The following quote comes from schizophrenia.com

“Recently gathered epidemiological data suggest an association between high fish consumption (suggesting high Essential Fatty Acids and Omega 3 oils) and positive outcomes in patients with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia patients often show reduced levels of Omega-3 and Omega-6 Essential Fatty Acids (EFA)in their red blood cell membranes. These EFAs (also known as poly-unsaturated fatty acids) normally contribute to brain cognitive and behavioral function, development, and growth.

If schizophrenia risk is also increased, as some scientific evidence has suggested, by pre-natal viral infections (thus raising inflammatory immune reactions in the body), EFA supplementation could play a protective role here by helping to control this inflammatory response.

Action: Omega 3 fatty acid supplementation for people may have a beneficial effect on the probabilities of getting schizophrenia, or on better control of symptoms if one already has schizophrenia. (Please note that researchers tell us that there is no good, validated research that supports the idea that any type of vitamin or fatty acid (EFA) will cure schizophrenia). It is imortant to maintain a balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (the former reduces inflammation, while the latter promotes it) – a healthy diet consists of roughly one to four times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. Sources for Omega-3s include fish (i.e. salmon, mackerel, halibut, sardines, and herring) and plant oils (i.e. flaxseeds, flaxseed oil, canola (rapeseed) oil, soybeans, soybean oil, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin seed oil, purslane, perilla seed oil, walnuts, and walnut oil). You can also buy fish oil capsules or flaxseed oil in health food stores.”

omega-blue-supplement-fish-oilOur family likes to get our essential fatty acids from flax and hemp seed oil, and especially from Young Livings Omega Blue. Omega blue is a superior essential fatty acid source of omega 3, and is enhanced with essential oils for maximum cell absorption. The product page on Omega Blue says it is

“free of heavy metals, PCBs, and dioxins, and offers the benefits of our Omega Enhance™essential oil blend to ensure freshness and stability. Omega Enhance combines legendary blue chamomile and myrrh oils to support a healthy inflammatory response, lemongrass oil to provide cardiovascular protection and support healthy cholesterol levels, and clove and myrrh for added antioxidant support.*” Read a full pdf on this product here.

Dr. Christopher, founder of the School of Natural Healing in Utah, used to suggest a colon cleanse, and a 3-Day cleanse as a general rule for patients who came to him, including those with mental problems. Information on cleansing the body with Dr. Christopher’s 3-Day Cleanse can be found here.

Whereas essential oils may not cure a person with mental problems, I have seen them be of great benefit in balancing moods. In the Essential Oils Desk Reference by Essential Science Publishing, peppermint  was studied and documented by Dr. William N. Dember of the University of Cincinnati to increase brain activity by 28%. The book suggested single therapeutic grade oils of peppermint, cardamom, cedarwood, vetiver, melissa, frankincense, and rosemary are suggested, as well as Young Living blends including Brain Power, Clarity, Valor, or M-Grain. Any one of these oils can be chosen and worn as a perfume, inhaled, and diffused for maximum benefit.

Weekly topical applications of the Raindrop Technique, available from Young Living, are also suggested as the Essential Oils Desk Reference goes on to say that some cases of schizophrenia are “believed to be caused by viral infection.” This would go along with the above article that mentioned pre-natal viral infections as a factor in schizophrenics. According to the article (read in full here) by schizophrenia.com, children born to mothers who contracted influenza in their pregnancies stand up to a 700 times greater risk of developing schizophrenia later in life. The Raindrop Technique involves applying a series of specific, therapeutic grade oils (some that have been clinically tested to kill some types of viruses and are also anti-inflammatory) along the spine. To learn more about this highly beneficial and amazing technique, read my associates article on the subject here.

One of the problems  associated with schizophrenia is inflammation. Years ago, Time magazine did an article  (read article here) telling of how inflammation is behind cancer, heart problems, arthritis, chronic pain and other problems.  Anti-oxidants address the problem of the unruly cells by donating electron’s that were lost by the cell.  Young Living provides a powerful blend antioxidant oils known called Longevity in oil and capsule form. Combining oils of thyme, clove, orange, and frankincense, this blend contains oils that are some of the most powerful anti-oxidant sources in the world. On top of which, some of these oils are, according to the Essential Oils Desk Reference, also anti-inflammatory. The EODR goes on to list the oils in this blend as antimicrobial, they protect essential fatty acids, and they help to protect cells.

"Assisting Families in their quest for greater health!"

Unless otherwise stated, these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This article is not intended to diagnose, prescribe, claim to cure, or treat disease. Seek the advice of a professional in the case of disease or medical emergency.

According to Dr. Mercola in his recent article, “Deadlier then Cocaine, Heroin, and the Swine Flu“, pain killers are killing thousands of people yearly.  Apparently, prescription drugs kill more then 26,000 people yearly. To quote:

“In fact, prescription drugs cause most of the more than 26,000 fatal overdoses each year, says Leonard Paulozzi of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The number of overdose deaths from opioid painkillers — opium-like drugs that include morphine and codeine — more than tripled from 1999 to 2006, to 13,800 deaths that year, according to recently released CDC statistics.

In the past, most overdoses were due to illegal narcotics, such as heroin, with most deaths in big cities. Prescription painkillers have now surpassed heroin and cocaine however, as the leading cause of fatal overdoses, Paulozzi says.”health-davinci-man-people

I guess if you are dead, then the pain is gone, but I don’t think that was the objective for many of these unfortunate people nor the pain killer! Apparently, one of the big reasons so many people are needing painkillers is because they are overweight, and as they age their joints begin to give them more and more trouble. This is so sad! What is more sad is there are natural, safer products out there and for many people these alternatives may do the trick perfectly. It is always so much better to use natural medicine for pain when you can. In my article, Pharmaceuticals, friends or foes? I pointed out the healthy body has a higher frequency of around 62 to 70 megahertz. Drugs have a very low frequency which, over use and time can drag the body’s frequency down, and when the body’s frequency lowers, sickness and disease can set in. What is furthermore, is things we ingest into the body with low frequencies can have a very difficult time getting back out of the body. According the the School of Natural Healing, drugs such as headache medicine which can get past the blood brain barrier and into the brain have no way of getting back out.

So what is there that is natural that people can do? The answer is many things! Valerian, Scullcap, and White Willow are herbs that herbalists have recommended for pain for many centuries. Currently, our family has enjoyed therapeutic grade essential oils for pain. My husband periodically gets migraines, and since he suspects that in his particular case that they are associated with digestion and liver overload (read more on why here), he takes a JuvaTone pill (it has essential oils and ingredients that support normal liver function) when he feels one coming on and he also takes a drop of Peppermint oil in water and puts a little on his temples and the back of his neck. He got the peppermint oil idea from his cousin-in-law who does the same thing for his migraines. Both of them say it can erase migraine symptoms in their tracks.

For nearly a year I had a wrist pain that would not go away. Sometimes it was better then others, but it got so bad I could not lift things with that hand because of the wrist. Finally, I purchased some Ortho Sport Massage Oil, and after three applications all symptoms were gone for good. We use Ortho Sport on our backs when they go out of place to great advantage. We recently also purchased Young Livings new roll-on Deep Relief, and have found ingredients in it invaluable for neck pain, and even headaches!

Pan-Away, M-Grain, and Aroma Seize are more completely phenomenal oils provided by Young Living that have helped us with pain relief. We have always found that after 5 to 10 minutes, if one oil doesn’t work then another one will. Don’t expect results from regular essential oils from the drug or health food store though, they are not the same. Even if they say “pure” and “100% pure”. Currently there are no labeling laws in America, and  this could simply, and usually does simply mean that the small percentage of oil that happens to be in the vial is pure, while the rest is another cheaper oil or even a synthetic, chemical solution. Just because an oil smells like lavender does not mean it is pure, or that it will work, it simply means it contains the chemical that makes up the smell of lavender but it may be missing the chemicals that bring about relief. The term to look for is Therapeutic Grade. For more information on this visit Aromatherapy Labeling Fraud and Best Essential Oils. For back pain, I have found the Raindrop Technique to be invaluable, you can read more about this here Back Pain and Aromatherapy.

Alzheimer’s is such a horrific disease and is such anguish not only for those that suffer with the disease but also for loved ones that are coping with helping a loved one.  So what can we do to ease the anguish that all parties are going through?

Easing the feelings that are associated with Alzheimer’s, like the feeling of stress, anxiousness and anger, can be a big help.  Several ways that may help are by using therapeutic-grade essential oils.

Over 4 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s.  Aluminum continues to be linked to Alzheimer’s yet older Americans are urged to get yearly flu shots which contain aluminum as an adjutant.  Another important chemical to remove from anyone’s life is aspartame.

Essential oils that are high in sesquiterpene’s, are known to cross the blood-brain barrier, and can dramatically increase oxygenation and activity in the brain. In studies conducted at Vienna and Berlin Universities, researchers found that sesquiterpene’s, found in essential oils, such as vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood, sandalwood and frankincense, can increase levels of oxygen in the brain by up to 28 percent (Nasel, 1992).  Such an increase in brain oxygen may lead to a heightened level of activity in the hypothalamus and limbic systems of the brain, which can have dramatic effects on not only emotions, learning, and attitude, but also many physical processes of the body, such as immune function, hormone balance, and energy levels.

The fragrance of many essential oils exerts a powerful stimulus on the limbic system—a part of the brain located on the margin of the cerebral cortex, including the amygdala, hippocampus, and hypophysis which interact directly with the thalamus and hypothalamus.  Acting together, these glands and brain components combined are the seat of memory, emotions, and sexual arousal.  They also govern aggressive behavior.

The ability of essential oils to pass the blood-brain barrier gives them enormous therapeutic potential against such neurological diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrigs’s and MS.

Stress is a biological term for the consequences of the failure of a human or animal to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats.   Common stress symptoms include irritability, muscular tension, anxiousness, inability to concentrate and a variety of physical reactions, such as headaches and elevated heart rate.

Young Living has many therapeutic-grade essential oils that may help to lessen stress and anxiousness.  It is very important to Note: All essential oils are NOT created equal. Most essential oils are of lower quality. Therefore, do NOT use the information provided here for other brands. Learn why quality is so important.

Here are two ways of utilizing the therapeutic value of the essential oil to help with stress and anxiousness.nebulizer-diffuser

  1. Diffusing the essential oil.  Read more on diffusing.
  2. Applying to the soles of the feet. Read more on applying essential oils to the bottoms of feet. Massage 1-2 drops with a carrier oil such as V6  to the soles of the feet and paying particular attention to the brain reflex center (center part of the bottom part of the big toe) and apply mild direct pressure.
  3. V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex is used to dilute certain essential oils and can be mixed to create custom blends, formulas, and massage oils. This oil complex nourishes the skin, has a long shelf life, doesn’t clog pores, and will not stain clothes.

As stated previously in this article; essential oils that are high in sesquiterpens, are known to cross the blood-brain barrier, and can dramatically increase oxygenation and activity in the brain. This ability of essential oils to pass the blood-brain barrier gives them enormous therapeutic potential against such neurological diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrigs’s and MS.

Here is a list of essential oils that may be helpful to lessen stress and anxiety.  Once again the application would be by diffusing and applying the essential oil to the soles of the feet.foot-massage

Raindrop Technique® combines the art of aromatherapy with the techniques of Vita Flex and massage in the application of essential oils to various areas of the body. Raindrop Technique provides a revolutionary means of bringing balance and harmony to the body – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Mind, body and soul.

Raindrop Therapy is a powerful, non-invasive tool for assisting the body in correcting defects in the curvature of the spine by utilizing infection fighting therapeutic-grade essential oils that are antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial.  During the years that it has been practiced, it has resolved numerous cases of scoliosis, kyphosis, (kyphosis-an abnormal, convex curvature of the spine, with a resultant bulge at the upper back) and chronic back pain.  Further, it has eliminated the need for back surgery for hundreds of people.  By integrating Vita Flex and massage, the power of essential oils brings the body into structural and electrical alignment.*

Vita Flex Technique means “vitality through the reflexes”. It is a specialized form of hand and foot massage that is exceptionally effective in delivering the benefits of essential oils throughout the body.  It is said to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago.

Energy is released through electrical impulses created by contact between the fingertips and reflex points. This electrical charge follows the nerve pathways to a break or clog in the electrical circuit usually caused by toxins, damaged tissues, or loss of oxygen. Vita Flex uses a rolling and releasing motion. Rapid results are experienced when combining essential oils with Vita Flex stimulation.*

The ability of essential oils to penetrate the skin quickly and pass into bodily tissues to produce therapeutic effects has been studied. Essential oils are some of the most powerful inhibitors of microbes known and are an important weapon in combating many types of tissue infections.

Raindrop Technique is based on the idea, now being explored in a number of scientific studies, that many types of scoliosis and spinal misalignment’s are caused by viruses or bacteria that lie dormant along the spine.  These pathogens create inflammation, which, in turn, contorts and disfigures the spinal column.

Research in 2001 further corroborated the existence of infectious microorganisms as a cause of spine pain and inflammation.  Alistair Stirling and his colleges at the Royal Orthopedic Hospital in Birmingham, England, found that 53 percent of patients with severe sciatica tested positive for chronic, low-grade infection by gram-negative acteria (particularly Propionibacterium acnes) which triggered inflammation near the spine.  Stirling suggested that the reason these bacteria had not been identified earlier was because of the extended time required to incubate this material. (1)

The technique of Raindrop goes way beyond aromatherapy.  The use of therapeutic grade essential oils is very important, as using inferior or lesser quality oils would not give the same results and could actually be unsafe.  I use only Young Living Therapeutic Grade (YLTG) essential oils in the Raindrop Technique.

Note: All essential oils are NOT created equal. Most essential oils are of lower quality. Therefore, do NOT use the information provided here for other brands. Learn why quality is so important.

The ability of essential oils to penetrate the skin quickly and pass into bodily tissues to produce therapeutic effects has also been studied.  Hoshi University researchers in Japan found that cyclic monterpenes (including menthol, which is found in peppermint) are so effective in penetrating the skin that they can actually enhance the absorption of water-soluble drugs. (2)  North Dakota State University researchers have similarly found that cyclic monterpenes such as limonene and other terpenoids such as menthone and eugenol easily pass through the dermis, magnifying the penetration of pharmaceutical drugs such as tamoxifen.(3)

It is interesting to note that many essential oils used in Raindrop Technique, in addition to being highly anti-microbial, are also among those classified as GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) for internal use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.  These include basil, marjoram, peppermint, oregano, and thyme.  These and many other GRAS essential oils have a decades-long history of being consumed as foods or flavoring with virtually no adverse reactions.

In summary: Raindrop Technique is one of the safest, noninvasive techniques available for spinal health.  It is also an invaluable tool to promote healing from within using topically applied essential oils. It may help with spinal misalignment’s, tissue cleansing, emotional release and with relaxation.

The Raindrop Technique includes these Young Living Therapeutic Grade essential oils;

Fill a 5ml bottle with the following Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils & keep on hand for quick application.  The recipe fills the bottle half way.

  1. Valor                 25 drops
  2. Oregano           10 drops
  3. Thyme                5   drops
  4. Basil                     5   drops
  5. Cypress              5   drops

If you do not have anyone to apply the oils to your spine, put the oils on the bottoms of the feet on the spinal reflexes. This is good in assisting the immune system.*

If one has respiratory challenges, apply on the bottom of the feet on the spinal reflexes and the balls of the feet and on the chest.  Keep in mind that you may need to apply V6 to the chest, as the skin may be sensitive to the oils.*
