Young Living has recently established 3 Frankincense oil distilleries in Oman, where they are distilling our newest essential oil, Sacred Frankincense (Boswellia sacra). The species of Frankincense Young Living has carried for years is Boswellia carteri, which comes from Somalia. Sacred Frankincense Essential Oil

Omani frankincense is regarded the world over as the rarest, most sought-after aromatic in existence. After careful negotiations with Omani officials, Gary Young was granted permission to build a Young Living distillery in-country, and take the resulting essential oil out of Oman. Until this partnership, no Omani frankincense had ever left the country, unless directly purchased by Saudi royals.

Sacred Frankincense is highly regarded as the frankincense of the ancients and the traditional spiritual oil of biblical times. Young Living’s Sacred Frankincense marks the first time any Westerners have been able to experience these unique, spiritual properties.

The Frankincense from Oman is Boswellia sacra, and this has just been released by Young Living in the USA (and will soon be available in Australia) under the name of “Sacred Frankincense”. The Frankincense oil from Boswellia sacra is the rarest and most sought-after aromatic in existence, originally only available to royalty. Young Living is the only company exporting Boswellia sacra oil from Oman.

Frankincense Fact Sheets

Sacred Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) fact sheet

Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) fact sheet

From Dr. Suhail, M.D. at the 2010 YL Convention

Cancer, arthritis and periodontal disease are also relatively unknown in Oman and Yemen because the population has access to luban (frankincense resin), which is chewed like gum. They also soak 4 or 5 pieces of this resin in water overnight and drink the water. Dr. Suhail, M.D. siad that they don’t even have a cancer ward in the hospital that he visits in Oman because so few people over there have cancer. He only knows of 4 cancer cases, all 4 cases being non-local people.

Differences Between Boswellia carteri (Frankincense) and Boswellia sacra (Sacred Frankincense)

There are 3 major classes of chemicals in Frankincense oil that appear to be responsible for its anti-cancerous action – the alpha pinenes, boswellic acids, and incensol.

Boswellia sacra (Sacred Frankincense) has fewer compounds in it than Boswellia carteri (regular Frankincense). In Sacred Frankincense, its alpha pinenes are 80.72%, compared with 52.64% in Boswellia carteri. The incensol in both species differs too (incensol is a heavier molecule, which is only captured with 15+ hours of distillation) is 0.82% in Boswellia sacra, compared with 0.4% in Boswellia carteri.

The higher alpha pinenes give Sacred Frankincense a more spiritual purpose. Alpha pinenes can also soften the cell walls (that in cancer cells have tended to become shell-like and thus resistant to treatment).

Gary Young also shared his personal belief that incensol (which is in higher proportions in Sacred Frankincense) will be very powerful for degenerative diseases. In contrast. Gary also suggested that Boswellia carteri would be the oil of choice to help the immune system, having a stronger effect on the immune system than Sacred Frankincense.

Sacred Frankincense Study

A short term study of the effects of Sacred Frankincense before, during and after 30 days of use involving 12 subjects:

  • Learning blockages improved in 67%
  • Reading difficulties improved in 63%
  • Memory problems improved in 80%
  • Motivation issues improved in 33%

When asked if “uses of Sacred Frankincense lead to significant changes in your life?”, 80% said “yes”. Subjects said:

  • Before use brain felt full
  • After the first use felt alive
  • At end of study – easier to remember

Sacred Frankincense can help heal trauma, induce inner calm, reduce inner noise, ensure brain’s gifts and talents are more available. Two percent of brain activity is neuron firing; 98% is neuro-peptide release.

More Frankincense Research

  • Summary of latest research papers that were mentioned at 2010 convention:
  • Cancer starts when the DNA code becomes corrupted. Frankincense oil acts as a cellular re-set button. So it’s not surprising that Frankincense oil is being extensively researched for its ability to repair DNA. In one particular study on DNA repair capacity, Frankincense out-performed all other essential oils used in that study, and had a DNA repair capacity of 45%, compared with the next highest oils which were Hyssop at 43%, and Balsam Fir at 36%.
  • Frankincense oil has also been documented to regenerate disc, cartilage and bone.
  • Therapeutic-grade Frankincense oil contains Boswellic Acids, which are potent anti-inflammatory agents, and which researchers are considering to be a future replacement for steroid treatment. Steroids are caustic to life and the body itself, damaging the thyroid and parathyroid, and damaging to the immune system. Frankincense on the other hand has no negative side effects.
  • One study showed that Boswellic Acids were able to protect against hepatitis, and were able to reduce serum cholesterol (the bad cholesterol – LDL) by approx. 38%
  • Another study showed how Boswellic acids in Frankincense oil induces apoptosis (cell death) in leukemia cells.
  • The University of Oklahoma concluded that Frankincense may treat bladder cancer.
  • Frankincense has also been used for all kinds of arthritis, chest infection, Crohn’s disease, colitis and asthma.

A note from Gary Young on Frankincense during 2008: Gary Young walking the Frankincense Trail

Over the past five weeks I have traveled around the world one and a quarter times, visited 11countries, experienced 36 hours of time zone changes, and took 30 flights to see our oil in production and meet with some of our partners in growing and distilling essential oils. They appreciate my personal visits and I had the opportunity to spend much time with them. They have great admiration for the mission of Young Living and respect for my 27 years in the industry.

A highlight of the recent trip was inspecting frankincense sources. We traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, where I was able to introduce Marc Schreuder and Mary Lou Jacobsen to our frankincense suppliers. The final leg of our journey brought us to Oman – home to the famed Frankincense Trail. There we were privileged to explore the historical route and felt blessed to traverse such sacred ground.

Interestingly, some companies claim they are purchasing frankincense harvested in Oman, but if they would travel there themselves, they would discover that frankincense is not commercially harvested in Oman and there are no frankincense distilleries currently in operation there. Upon talking with Omani resin brokers, they explained that the resin they export commercially is harvested in Somalia and Ethiopia and then shipped to England for distillation. Mary and I send love and appreciation to all, ~ Gary Young

Did You Know…

Researchers have discovered that the sesquiterpenes in frankincense help stimulate the limbic system of the brain (the center of emotions) as well as the hypothalamus, pineal and pituitary glands. The hypothalamus is the master gland of the human body, controlling the release of many hormones including thyroid and growth hormone.

Frankincense is being researched and used therapeutically in European hospitals and is being investigated for its ability to improve human growth hormone production. Today, frankincense is still used worldwide for both its ceremonial and medicinal use.

How the Consumer Can Determine Superior Quality Essential Oils

Frankincense is a commonly adulterated oil. Frankincense resin that is sold in Somalia costs between $30,000 and $35,000 per ton. A great deal of time, 12 hours or more, is required to properly steam distill this essential oil from the resin, making it very expensive.

Frankincense oil that sells for $25 per ounce or less is invariably distilled with gum resins, alcohol or other solvents, which is a cheaper process, but leaves the essential oil laden with harmful chemicals.

Sadly, when these cut, synthetic, and adulterated oils cause rashes, burns, or other irritations, people wonder why they do not get the benefit they expected and conclude that essential oils do not have much value.

I can always determine the quality of a company’s essential oils by looking at the label on their Frankincense oil – if it states “Not For Internal Use” – I know they make junk oils… Frankincense is edible when it is handled properly.

Ways to Use Sacred Frankincense

  • Diffuse – For up to one hour daily. Good for congestion and voice loss, calming to the mind, reduce mental strain, cultivate internal peace, and place past obsessive states into perspective.Diffuse this oil while practicing yoga, meditation, or prayer to deepen your experience and feel a connection to ancient traditions. More on Diffusers and Diffusing
  • Massage – Blend 4 drops Sacred Frankincense with 1 TBSP V-6 Massage Oil. More on massage and bodywork
  • Bath – Mix 4 drops Sacred Frankincense with 1 cup Epsom Salts or Sea Salt in a small dish, add to running bath water, soak for 20 minutes. This is good for circulatory support, respiratory support, exhaustion, and nightmares. It also has a good astringent effect on the skin; perks up older, more mature skin; and may assist the body in healing itself of wounds, sores, and ulcers.
  • Creams and Lotions – Sacred Frankincense can be added to a base cream or lotion to help with general skin tone and condition while reducing oily skin, rejuvenating more mature skin, and at the same time helping wounds, ulcers, and sores heal.
  • Wash or Use as a Compress – To assist the body in healing and to lessen the appearance of scars from wounds, add a few drops of Sacred Frankincense to the water when washing a wound. For other applications, apply diluted oil directly onto the affected area or use as a compress. More on essential oil compresses
  • Wear as a Perfume
  • Inhale – directly from the bottle or place one drop on palm, rub palms together, cup palms over the nose and inhale deeply thrree times
  • Dietary Supplement - Put two drops in a capsule. Take three times daily or as needed.
  • Topical - Apply 2–4 drops directly to desired area. Dilution not required, except for the most sensitive skin. Use as needed.
  • Chakra – Use on Chakra points. More on aromatherapy and Chakras
  • Meditation, Yoga, Prayer – Frankincense has a long history of use during spiritual practice, Sacred Frankincese is perfect for enhancing your practice. More on aromatherapy for Yoga, meditation and prayer

Gary Young on the Frankincense Trail

For thousands of years, frankincense was transported across the most desolate wilderness on earth: the Empty Quarter. This vast desert covers some 250,000 square miles and spans part of Oman, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

I grew up in an Idaho wilderness area, packing horses and mules and traveling across treacherous terrain. So it wasn’t so difficult for me to understand life on a camel caravan, as rugged men left their homes and loved ones to take their precious cargo of frankincense and myrrh north to market.

To travel with a caravan was a dangerous and sometimes deadly occupation. The desert itself could be a vicious opponent with violent sandstorms that could change the landscape, covering precious waterholes, creating huge new dunes and possibly burying a caravan. There were poisonous snakes and scorpions as well. But the most dangerous adversary of all came on two legs: robbers, thieves, and marauders determined to steal the resins worth more than gold.

I have walked and driven over the majority of the frankincense trails that brought the prized resins from southern Arabia to the ports of Gaza, Alexandria, and Damascus. I have such an appreciation for the rugged men who risked their lives to bring such a treasure to the world. That same spirit of adventure has inspired me to bring the very best frankincense and myrrh to today’s seeker of physical and emotional wellness.

Harvesting Sacred Frankincense

The process of collecting frankincense happens two times a year – once in the spring (March to May) and then in the fall (September to October). To harvest the resin, you have to take a little axe and chop the hardened resin crystals off the branches – but there’s a process that comes in the week before that.

To begin the process, you cut the bark of the frankincense tree and then it allows the liquid resin to ooze out onto the external part. Then, when it hits the oxygen, it starts to crystallize and harden. Naturally, the longer it is left on the tree, the longer it is present in the oxygen and the harder it gets. It takes about a week before you can actually come back and cut it off as a hardened resin crystal. So this is a week to two-week process from when you go in and you cut the tree to when you come back and collect the crystal resin. Then the crystal resin goes into the distillery where it is crushed into powder, put into an oil bath, and steam distilled to extract the oil from the crystal resin.

This process produces different types of frankincense resins. The one that is very white is called Hojari. Now, when I was collecting frankincense years ago and they said “Hojari,” I thought they were being very friendly and saying, “How, Gary?” And I said, “With an axe.” But this was Hojari. There are actually five grades of frankincense resin. The first grade is brownish resin. It has a lot of bark particles in it, and that’s very commonly used because there’s more of it available. But the Hojari is what was selected just for the kings and queens because it was the purest of the frankincense. Essentially Yours, Gary Young

There are three Young Living supplements that have been quite useful in addressing pain – BLM, Sulfurzyme and Coral Sea. When taken together, these supplements work synergistically to nourish and build the health of our muscoskeletal systems. BLM supplement

BLM

Formulated from the most potent, natural ingredients known, BLM protects mobility and the health of your Bones Ligaments and Muscles.

Key ingredients include: Collagen Type II, MSM, glucosamine sulfate, manganese citrate and the essential oils of Clove, Idaho Balsam Fir and Wintergreen.

Idaho Balsam Fir is one of the richest sources of limonene, a powerful antioxidant that may help ease stress and tension in joints and in the muscoskeletal system. More on BLM.

Sulfurzyme Sulfurzyme supplement

Sulfurzyme is a terrific supplement and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular – MSM, a key ingredient in Sulfurzyme, which has been proven to be extremely effective in relieving pain, especially tissue and joint pain. MSM is also a source of organic sulfur (not to be confused with sulfa), shown to reduce the inflammation of arthritis, relieve muscle spasms, improve blood flow and deliver biologically active sulfur to the joints.

Because MSM is not absorbed well unless it is taken with high levels of Vitamin C, amino acids and protein, Sulfurzyme includes Chinese wolfberries which contain all three!

How MSM works to control pain: When fluid pressure inside the cell is higher than the outside pressure, pain is experienced. The MSM found in Sulfurzyme equalizes fluid pressure by affecting the protein envelope of the cell so that water transfers freely in and out. More on Sulfurzyme.

Essential Oils Known for Helping Reduce Pain

To find the essential oils and supplements that can help relieve your pain, you may need to try a few different oils and combinations because every body is different. See 5 Tips for Getting the Most From Your Essential Oils (different methods of application).

  • Peppermint is one of the most effective essential oils for blocking pain. In one study that compared the effectiveness of Peppermint oil to acetaminophen for headache pain, Peppermint “efficiently alleviated tension-type headaches and… was a well tolerated and cost effective alternative to conventional therapies.” (Gobel et al., 1996). Peppermint inhibits smooth muscle contractions by blocking calcium influx into the muscle cells, thus blocking the transmission of pain signals. (Forster et al., 1980; Giachetti et al.,1988)
  • PanAway is well known by users for its pain-relieving properties. PanAway a blend of Wintergreen, Clove, Helichrysum and Peppermint. The eugenol in Clove has a long history of use for pain relief in dentistry and for rheumatism, arthritis and headaches.
  • Relieve It is a blend of Spruce, Black Pepper, Hyssop and Peppermint. Conifer oils such as Spruce have traditionally been used for topical relief of rheumatism and arthritis. Black Pepper relieves muscle aches, pain and stiffness by dilating blood vessels and bringing additional circulation to the area.

Other Essential Oils and Massage Oils Useful for Pain Discomforts

  • Copaiba (strong anti-inflammatory properties)
  • Motivation or Gentle Baby (I like these for muscle spasm/cramping)
  • Idaho Balsam Fir (anti-inflammatory properties)
  • Nutmeg (anti-inflammatory)
  • Palo Santo (this has worked well for my stiff neck)
  • Frankincense (helps muscles to relax, may not directly help feelings of pain though)
  • Ortho Ease and Ortho Sport are two wonderful massage oils to use before and after sports or exercise. Ortho Sport is the stronger of the two.
  • Cel-Lite Magic is also a massage oil that can be useful when lymph is sluggish.

Common Sense Precautions

  • Young Living essential oils are highly concentrated. When applying topically, dilute one or two drops of essential oil in one tablespoon of pure vegetable oil. If any skin irritation results, add more carrier oil or discontinue use.
  • Black Pepper, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Marjoram, Thyme, Oregano, and Thieves oil are considered ‘hot’ spice oils, so test skin sensitivity first by applying a small amount on the inside of the arm with a little V-6 Massage Oil.
  • Hot essential oils should always be used with a carrier oil, such as V-6.
  • Dilution with V-6: 2 drops essential oil to 1 TBSP V-6. Yes, you can always dilute your essential more if you like.
  • Never dilute essential oils with water when being used topically. Always use V-6 or another pure vegetable oil.
  • If essential oil gets into the eyes, use a drop of your carrier oil to dilute, do NOT use water.

Peppermint is one of the most effective essential oils for blocking pain. In one study that compared the effectiveness of Peppermint oil to acetaminophen for headache pain, Peppermint “efficiently alleviated tension-type headaches and… was a well tolerated and cost effective alternative to conventional therapies.” (Gobel et al., 1996) Back pain.

Two essential oil blends from Young Living are well known by users for their pain-relieving properties. The first is PanAway a blend of Wintergreen, Clove, Helichrysum and Peppermint. The eugenol in Clove has a long history of use for pain relief in dentistry and for rheumatism, arthritis and headaches.

The second blend is Relieve It is a blend of Spruce, Black Pepper, Hyssop and Peppermint. Conifer oils such as Spruce have traditionally been used for topical relief of rheumatism and arthritis. Black Pepper essential oil can help relieve muscle aches, pain and stiffness by dilating blood vessels and bringing additional circulation to the area.

Other Essential oils that have also been useful for pain discomforts:

  • Copaiba (strong anti-inflammatory properties)
  • Motivation or Gentle Baby essential oil blends (I like these for muscle cramps)
  • Idaho Balsam Fir (anti-inflammatory properties)
  • Nutmeg (anti-inflammatory)
  • Palo Santo (this has worked well for my stiff neck)
  • Frankincense (helps muscles to relax)

I very rarely use one single essential oil for my aches and pains, I prefer using 2 or 3 at a time with 1 TBSP Cle-Lite Magic Massage Oil. I like the synergistic effect that occurs when they work together.

Ortho Ease and Ortho Sport are two wonderful massage oils to use before and after sports or exercise. Ortho Sport is the stronger of the two.

Cel-Lite Magic is also a massage oil that can be useful when lymph is sluggish.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." ~ Dr. Seuss

Many can identify with stress and tension locating itself somewhere in the body, mine has always gone straight to my neck and shoulders. Causing pain, discomfort, stiff neck, difficultly turning my neck, and when I wake up feeling stiff and uncomfortable it produces an emotional feeling of, “ugh, here we go again. I’d just love to have this nonsense go away for good.”

Two weeks ago, I went back to the drawing board, my essential oils case and Essential Oils Desk Reference (EODR). The blend called Release™ has always been quite good for me, though it never addressed the problem completely, two weeks ago I decided that it was time to find an essential oil that more adequately nipped this in the bud.

After about an hour, I made my decision. I chose the blend Humility™ and two singles, Sandalwood and Jasmine. I’ve had these three oils massaged on my neck, shoulders and back three times in the past two weeks and I have to tell you the results have been amazing! But before I tell you my results I want to share how I came to this conclusion so that it may help you make choices that produce great results to.

How I went about choosing Humility™, Sandalwood and Jasmine

Knowing that therapeutic essential oils have profound effects on the body, mind and soul. And that through the olfactory system scent plays a huge role in how we feel, our responses to events, and our immune system. I started looking through my EODR and reading the benefits of some of the aromas I am particularly attracted to, scents that make me feel like, “aaaaaah, I’m in heaven.”

So I looked up Ylang ylang, Rose, Rosewood, Frankincense, Jasmine, Neroli, and Sandalwood. Here’s a bit about what the EODR said about each of these essential oils:

  • Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) is considered a holy anointing oil in the Middle East and has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years. Stimulates the limbic part of the brain, elevating the mind and helping to overcome stress and despair. More on Frankincense essential oil
  • Rose (Rosa damascena) possesses the highest frequency of the oils. It creates a sense of balance, harmony, and well-being and elevates the mind. More on Rose essential oil
  • Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora) is high in linalool, which has a relaxing, empowering effect. It is very grounding and strengthening.
  • Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) increases relaxation; balances male and female energies. It also restores confidence and equilibrium.
  • Neroli (Citrus sinensis) was used by the ancient Egyptians for healing the mind, body, and spirit. It is stabilizing and strengthening to the emotions, promoting peace, confidence, and awareness. It brings everything into focus. It is used for depression and anxiety.
  • Sandalwood (Santalum album) is high in sesquiterpene compounds which stimulate the pineal gland and the limbic region of the brain, the center of emotions and memory. Used traditionally in yoga and meditation.

Reading a little further I saw that most of those essential oils were in the blend Forgiveness™. I looked in my Aroma Complete case and saw that I didn’t have any Forgiveness™. I did find that the blend Humility™ had many of the same essential oils as Forgiveness™, but was lacking the Jasmine and Sandalwood (which I was very much desiring). Humility essential oil blend

Humility™ is helpful for obtaining forgiveness and a deeper spiritual awareness. This soothing and calming combination of oils brings balance to your heart and mind, enabling you to find a peaceful place, where healing can begin.

So I got out the Humility™, Jasmine and Sandalwood and had my boyfriend layer each of these three on my neck, shoulders, and back. Layering is a way of applying the oils, you drip 4-8 drops of one essential oil on the location, wait about 2-3 minutes, then do the same with the next, and repeat. After the last essential oil is applied you then apply your V-6™ Massage Oil (a superb carrier oil) and massage.

My Experience and Results

As each essential oil was layered on me I noticed how amazingly the combination smelled – it would make an excellent perfume! It smelled so fabulous that I was drawn to inhaling much deeper and longer breaths, and I couldn’t stop saying how much I loved the scent.

About 5 minutes later, while the massage was still going on, my neck and body began to feel like a Raggity Ann doll. Then, I began to feel a little nauseous (which is a good sign, it means that trapped negative stuff is releasing from my brain, body, and my cells).

Shortly after the massage ended I got up and changed into my PJ’s, this is when the experience got very cool… while slipping on my nightgown I noticed that my sense of feeling of my skin on my neck, shoulders and back were alive again! This may sound strange, but I had not realized just how much skin sensitivity I regained in the massaged area. This has never happened to me before. I could all of a sudden feel on my skin the seams and draping fabric on my skin. I sat down on the couch and could feel the texture and creases in the leather on my back through my PJ’s! This is not an over-sensitivity, or hyper-sensitivity – just that my back could now feel sensations like other areas of my body. I had never realized before that I had such a low degree of skin sensitivity in this area. It was as if for the first time in my life that I had true feeling in my back!

I awoke the next morning… absolutely no discomfort, not neck or shoulder stiffness, and no more thinking, “ugh, here we go again!” Instead I felt like… “now this IS how people are suppose to feel when they wake up in the morning!” Rested, alert, ready to face the day with a brightness in the eyes and a bounce in the step.

Other changes I’ve noticed are: brain fog is gone, clearer thinking, quicker thinking, perceptions have shifted, I’m working and doing things more efficiently, and on the spiritual side of things, I feel much more connected to the energy of nature – and I normally tend to be a very grounded and intuitive person. I’m very impressed with the results I’ve gotten.

The other two times I had my boyfriend give me a massage the exact same way as the first, each time I felt different than the last – like significant steps are being taken and each time I’ve felt that I’ve gained further ground in much more profound ways.

This is absolutely a terrific combination of essential oils for moving out stuck emotions in the body. I highly recommend giving Humility, Sandalwood, and Jasmine a try if you hold emotions in body areas.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." ~ Dr. Seuss

This essential oil comes from an evergreen woodland tree, native of North America. I happens to be one of my favorites for a few reasons; I love the scent, the tiny needles it drops to the ground, and in it’s native environment it’s found among native Rhododendron, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, an assortment of ferns, and is usually near some of the prettiest cascading streams with moss covered rocks and boulders. The ground I love to walk on as it’s usually cushiony soft under foot and comfy for sitting on. Tsuga canadensis (Hemlock)

Appreciation of  Tsuga

Eastern hemlock is a straight-trunked, gracefully pyramidal tree with long, pendulous limbs and short-needled, feathery branches. Evergreen needles are dark-green with silvery undersides.Evergreen tree with conical crown of long, slender, horizontal branches often drooping down to the ground, and a slender, curved, and drooping leader.

The bark was once a commercial source of tannin in the production of leather. Pioneers made tea from leafy twigs and brooms from the branches. A graceful shade tree and quite beautiful in the woodland landscape. Many trim it into hedges, but I think it looks best left natural as it’s majestic beauty speaks for itself.

Eastern hemlock can be a fast-grower. It must be placed where there is good drainage and no strong, drying winds. Trees seem somewhat pH adaptable but prefers acidic soils. Sunscorch kills back branches, and drought kills the tree. A number of diseases and insects can be troublesome, but trees in good health prove reliable.

This hemlock is a host for the beautiful and native female Columbia silkmoth (Hyalophora columbia), shown in photo below. The wingspan of the moth is slightly over 3 inches, so you’ll have plenty to admire when you come across this beauty!  She lays one or two eggs at the base of the needles, or on leaves and twigs of other host plants. The caterpillars hatch in less than two weeks and are solitary feeders. The cocoon is compact and spun close to the ground on the trunk or stem of the host plant or on nearby thick undergrowth. Columbia Silkmoth

This tree can grow to 100 feet tall and unfortunately many use it as a foundation planting around their home, thinking if they keep it trimmed it will not bust through their foundation and eventually form cracks that will produce a leaky or wet basement. If you plan to plant this tree, keep in mind it will become extremely tall and wide. I recommend not planting it any closer than 75 feet away from any buildings, as this will allow others decades and centuries from now to enjoy a tree that you planted mindfully.

Tsuga canadensis is in the botanical family Pinaceae and it’s common name is, Eastern or Canadian Hemlock. As for the properties of the essential oil from this tree there are many, not to mention it’s lovely earthy, woody, pine scent is wonderful for diffusing at home or in the car. Tsuga essential oil has a fresh, clean scent.

Next time you use this wonderful essential oil you might think about all the wonderful things this tree provides in the environment and for us.

Experimenting with Oils and Workouts

White Fir has been one of the oils that I find to be very effective.  When I rub it on my tissues and go do my workout, that oil holds and it pulls the  protein in and dilates those blood vessels and gets more blood flow in there and keeps the flexibility at the same time.  PanAway works, but for some people that is a little hot and it stings a little, but I like that feeling.  I have also used Peppermint with the White Fir and that has been really good.  I have used Release, I have used  Spruce, I have used the Douglas Fir.

I have gone through a lot of the oils to see if any of them seem to have a greater effect than another and now the two that I really like are White Fir and Tsuga with Peppermint. I am concluding at this point that for me that seems to be the combination that is really making a difference.  It’s nice because while you are sweating, you can still smell good!  It’s great!” ~ Gary Young

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." ~ Dr. Seuss

  1. Rotating Your Essential Oils for Added Benefit. For daily use, you may find your essential oils to be more effective if you rotate through different oils. For example when treating pain, you might use “Pan Away” one day, then “Motivation” the next, then “Wintergreen” the next day, and then “Relieve It” the next day.
  2. Layering Your Essential Oils. This technique consists of applying multiple oils one at a time, one at a time. For example, place a couple drops of marjoram over a sore muscle, massage it into the tissue gently until the area is dry, and then apply a second oil, such as peppermint (a couple drops), until the oil is absorbed and the skin is dry. Then layer on the third oil, such as basil (a couple drops), and continue massaging. Have your V-6 handy to use as your carrier oil to dilute your essential oils. If you’re new to Young Living essential oils, allow enough time (3-5 minutes) for the body to respond before applying a second oil, apply V-6 with each essential oil as a carrier oil.
  3. Enhancing the Benefits of Topical Application. The longer essential oils stay in contact with the skin, the more likely they are to be absorbed. Unlike fatty oils, essential oils are volatile, meaning they will dissipate into the air. A high-quality massage oil, such as V-6, may be layered on top of the essential oils to reduce evaporation of the essential oils, act as a carrier oil, and enhance penetration.
  4. When One Drop is Too Much. Sometimes you may find that one drop is too much at one time, this can be true if you’re using one of the Young Living essential oils in cooking recipes or in beverages. To obtain less than one drop you will want to use what we call “the toothpick method.” Dip the end of a toothpick into the center dripper hole of your bottle of essential oil, take the toothpick out and swirl it into your recipe or beverage for a pleasant added flavor. This is an especially good method this time of year when you want to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate flavored with peppermint. More tips on cooking with essential oils.
  5. How to Use Essential Oils with Acupressure. When performing acupressure treatment, apply 1 – 3 drops of essential oil to the acupressure point with your finger. Using an auricular probe with a slender point to dispense oil can enhance the application. Start by pressing firmly and then releasing. Avoid applying pressure to any particular pressure point too long. You may continue along the acupressure points and meridians or use the reflexology or Vita Flex points as well. Once you have completed small point stimulations, massage the general area with the essential oil.

Note: These tips only apply to the use of Young Living Essential Oils. It is not recommended to substitute another brand.
