Insect Pests / Repellant

You are currently browsing the archive for the Insect Pests / Repellant category.

Bed bugs are escalating because of global travel; the increase of homeless and underground communities; the popularity of “Flea” markets and 2nd-hand store merchandise. The escalation of bed bugs is alarming and people should be aware of the problem, how difficult it is to be rid of them, yet not be too discouraged, because there are natural, safe, chemical free ways to have those bed bugs be gone.

If you’re traveling or you’ve just recently purchased some used furniture, it’s a good idea to do an inspection for any mature bed bugs.  Bed bugs tend to be found in dwellings that are frequently used, like motels, hotels, apartments, dorms, care facilities, and most especially used furniture.

If you think you’re being bitten, it’s best to do a search of your home for these pests.  Bedding, clothes hampers, throw rugs, pillows and furniture are probably the first places you’ll want to search for bed bugs.

Vacuuming the mattress, using the “Bed Bug Spray” mentioned below, and applying a seal-able cover over the mattress should be sufficient.  Meanwhile, all clothes, linens, and bedding should be washed in HOT water, and the surrounding area vacuumed thoroughly.

Make sure that you dry the sheets and clothes in the dryer and not on a clothes line, as it is the long time in the dryer, not the washing machine, that will really ensure the bed bugs are dead.

Essential oil lovers prefer the Eco-friendly approach, and research shows that tree oils work best against parasites and menacing insects. Gary Young touts the praises of Palo Santo oil as the first choice for insect repellent. Palo Santo comes from an Ecuadoran tree which develops a resin to protect against infestation and it is from that resin that Young Living distills the Palo Santo oil.

Eucalyptus has been used historically for bed bugs, and Eucalyptus Blue is the first anti-viral Eucalyptus Oil . Native American Indians relied on pine needles and Cedarwood chips in their mattresses to ward off ticks and fleas.

Young Living essential oils are the essential oils that are being recommended for the following suggestions. Young Living essential oils are high quality therapeutic-grade essential oils.  Read more on quality of oils.

Spray on Bed Between Linen Changes: Thieves Spray

Palo Santo Oil: Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) comes from the same botanical family (Burseraceae) as frankincense, although it is found in South America rather than the Middle East. Like frankincense, Palo Santo is known as a spiritual oil, traditionally used by the Incas to purify and cleanse the spirit from negative energies. Even its Spanish name reflects how highly this oil is regarded: Palo Santo means “holy wood” or “sacred wood.” The resin forms only after the tree is down for 5 years, and this resin from which the oil is extracted, protects the tree from various parasites.*

Eucalyptus Blue Oil: Eucalyptus Blue has a fresh, invigorating aroma that supports normal breathing and soothes tense muscles. This essential oil is grown and harvested in Ecuador. This is the first form of Eucalyptus that is also anti-viral. This essential oil contains high levels of the powerful constituents eucalyptol and alpha-pinene, and follows in the same tradition as a repellent to insects.*

Cedarwood Oil: Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica) has a warm, balsamic, woody aroma. It is relaxing and soothing when used for massage, and has long been used as a beneficial ingredient in cosmetic preparations for oily skin.*

Purification® Oil Blend: Purification® is a powerful blend of Therapeutic Grade A Melaleuca (Tea Tree oil); Citronella, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Lavandin and Myrtle essential oils. Purification® can be used directly on the skin to cleanse and soothe insect bites, cuts, and scrapes. When diffused, it helps to purify and cleanse the air from environmental impurities including cigarette smoke and other disagreeable odors.*

Thieves Household Cleaner: Experience the wonder of Thieves® Household Cleaner, as tough stains and problem areas in your home become simple and easy to clean without using harsh or abrasive chemicals. Thieves Essential Oil is legendary as was proven at Weber State University to exhibit a kill rate of 99.96% against all airborne bacteria including MRSA, Staph, Strep, e-Coli and Toxic Black Mold. While bacteria can be dangerous, some industrial cleaners on the market pose an even larger threat to your health. Thieves Household Cleaner is a safe all-purpose “green” concentrate that can be used in every room in your home, without the harsh chemicals. Dilution ratios are listed on the label for your convenience.

Many use their Young Living Essential Oils to kill or control and repel insect pests in the garden and around the home. Using essential oils in this way is a terrific option for those looking to eliminate toxins in their home, life, and the environment. I personally choose something natural over any form of chemical treatment whether it be for insect control, cleaning my home, or personal hygiene; I feel going natural is the only way to improve and protect our health. The question arises… why are insects killed by an application of an essential oil and people aren’t, here’s my answer…

We need to look at the really big picture here as it is important in understanding why. It doesn’t kill us for a couple of reasons… first, one or two drops of essential oil on a flea or a tick is almost the equivalent of us having a dump truck load of essential oil spilling on us, if we had that much poured on us we’d probably die too. Even too much of a good thing can be harmful.

Second, aromatic plants create essential oils to protect themselves from all sorts of pathogens, fungi, insects, bad bacteria, and microorganisms that could cause harm or kill them during their life cycle. They’re designed to either kill or deter certain insects or microorganisms that could endanger the survival of their species. Even though we do eat plants, we are not considered an insect pest in the plant kingdom, as such they have not created chemicals specifically to kill or harm us intentionally for the sake of warding us off.

Essential oils do not kill the bacteria or organisms that are beneficial to the plant or humans – unless if in extremely high amounts, like in my dump truck analogy.

Additionally, many of the same things that affect us also affect plants. Because humans have had a close relationship with plants and we evolved together over centuries, our bodies know how to process the compounds in an essential oil. This is why a properly distilled essential oil that has not been adulterated will not leave behind in your body a bunch of nasty stuff. This is also why I do not appreciate products and drugs that contain ‘isolated’ ingredients derived from plants; an isolated ingredient works on and has a completely different affect when it is ‘not’ with all of the other compounds that were originally present in that plant. In other words, all of the compounds are there for a reason.

Humans also found, through trial and error, that certain aromatic plants helped us with many of the same types of issues plants encounter, like: fungus, mold, viruses, bad bacteria, wound healing. Because we evolved together, and humans relied on plants for both food and health, our bodies process the plant parts and essential oils harmoniously.

Some insect and mammal species haven’t evolved so closely with the aromatic plants. As such they can’t tolerate certain essential oils or even process them very well, like: fish, frogs, reptiles, birds, and to a lesser extent cats… what do these species have in common… they never relied on land plants as their main source of food or medicine. This is not to say you can never use an essential oil around those species, just that mindfulness to what their bodies can process and tolerate needs to be examined before hand.

Canines are another species that have a closer relationship with plants, after the hunt and kill, the part of the catch which is eaten first is the stomach, which is pretty much partially digested plant matter. They also eat some wild fruits and vegetables, and some protein/raw meat.

Insects often attack and eat plants that are in a weaken state. A weakened plant does not contain all of the normal compounds a healthy plant contains.

Every species is both prey and predator. Everything attacks and eats something else, every species on earth does this. This has kept every species from taking over completely, it’s like a checks and balance system, it’s a natural cycle that is suppose to happen. When this natural balance is upset, due to: extremes in climate or weather changes, or the extinction of a species (which is almost always caused through human interference or behavior).

For instance, bringing exotic species to a foreign country, whether it’s plant or animal; there’s a reason why everything isn’t every place and it’s called ‘community’, as in a ‘plant community’. A community is places, like niches, where conditions are within a certain set of criteria in order for a species to be successful, some species are more particular than others.

We see many examples of an alien plant or animal species take-over when that species has been introduced into a landscape where they are not native. This almost always results in destruction to the native habitat that supports the species native to that place. Some examples of this happening in the US are the introduction of: Gypsy Moth, Kudzu, Purple Loosestrife, Quackgrass, Bamboo, Butterfly Bush, Autumn Olive, European Starling [ just to name a tiny few] have a very real and destructive impact economically and environmentally.

There is also another thing visible in nature, you will never see a dandelion or brambles growing in an old growth forest. Those are species you only find in disturbed places, and as times passes that place transforms in a succession, paving the way for the next series of species to take over… everything is evolving, very slowly over time, adapting and doing what it can for the survival of its species.

The big picture is enormous, so large in fact that it’s difficult for us to comprehend many times. It’s easy for us to forget where we have come from, and where we are going.

It is for these reasons that I have particularly strong feelings why there are certain things we should stop doing and stop using. It’s really important to step back and consider more than just the superficial impact we’re having on the whole picture. Like many of our state forest signs say… “take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.” That same mindfulness and awareness can be put to use at home, every single day; whether it be with using our essential oils by the drop, buying locally, or stop buying items we can live just fine without.

Two websites that are great resources for getting back in touch with nature and living a more balanced lifestyle are Storyof Stuff.com and LoveTheEarth.com both can help us better realize just how much our choices can make a difference and the value of living in a more balanced way.

In short, why essential oils don’t kill us is because we use them in very small amounts, and unlike insect and virus pests we have a many centuries long harmonious relationship with most plant species.

I do want to add… this pertains to properly grown plants (beyond organic standards) and properly distilled plants. This is important because most essential oils and aromatherapy oils available are not fit for aromatic or topical applications due to adulteration and solvents. You don’t want to negate the benefits by using an inferior essential oil. In my over twenty year experience using essential oils I have found Young Living Essential Oils to be the best, they are superior to others; which explains why they set the benchmark and quality standards in the world.

It was only a couple days after moving in to our new apartment when at sunset I heard a lot of noise coming from the kitchen. I got onto my crutches to go see what was going on and by the time I got there the noise had stopped. Each evening, at about the same time, I heard the same type of noises and each time I hobbled out to the kitchen the noise stopped.   squirrel-rodent-animals

Finally, I happened to be in the kitchen when the ruckus began. Ahhhh, it’s squirrels in the crawl space over the kitchen sink! Each evening after that it seemed like the squirrels were inviting friends over, I could hear more and more of them each night. Great, that’s all I need, one of them to chew on the electrical wiring and get zapped,  the smell that would follow for two weeks as the furry little body decomposed was something I didn’t want to live with again. That’s happened twice to me many years ago, just thinking of having to leave the windows open 24 hours a day for the next two weeks during October to rid the house of rotting flesh gave me goosebumps just thinking about it. Not to mention, having to deal with an electrician coming in to replace the chewed up wiring.

Low and behold, two nights later during one of their more active episodes one of them must have found a small hole or space between the studs and slid down between them… he ended up between the kitchen and living room walls.

Bandit was very quick to run to the kitchen and sniff at the baseboard where he heard the little critter moving, trying to climb back up the inside of the wall. I  watched as Bandit sniffed and snorted, and touched the wall with his paw and let out one of his loud woofs. I smiled and said, “squirrel.” Since he knows the word “squirrel”  he jumped up into the air wagged his tail and proceeded his sniffing, snorting and pawing… “oh mom, this is great fun, a squirrel in the house,” I could hear him thinking.

Then, the excitement shifted and the little squirrel began squeaking. Of course Bandit was right there to hear the series of three squeaks (which always came in threes). This continued for over three entertaining hours. After 45 minutes, Bandit became concerned and kept coming over to me as if to say, “something is wrong here, do something about it!” He knows the word “help” and he also knows when ‘help’ is being applied. So now I felt bad for both the trapped squirrel and for Bandit who couldn’t understand ‘why’ I wasn’t doing something.  bandit-dog

I emailed my landlord and told him what had happened. He said he’d be over around lunchtime the next day to bust a hole in the wall if the squirrel was still trapped. By morning I could hear the squirrel was indeed still trapped.

My landlord arrived with a live trap and tools and began pulling the wall apart and sawing, surely that loud noise would make the squirrel want to high-tail it out of there at the first crack of light entering the space.. but nope, he went into the furthest corner between the walls and planted himself there. We all must have been delusional thinking it would happen quickly and easily!

After an hour the squirrel hadn’t moved any closer to the trap, that corner was his safe domain and he was set to stay there. Curt and the landlord devised many tools in attempt to pry this critter out of the corner. No matter what they did this little guy was NOT going to budge – he had his feet cemented in place, we could learn something from animals who refuse to budge, like how to be extremely grounded. He’d squeak, hiss and growl as these two men tried to softly coax him into entering the alein world if our apartment.

After they duck taped my large gray ladle to a 3 foot long 1×1 and still couldn’t get this critter to budge they began discussing how they could wrap up their hand and arm and reach in and pull him out, a scary thought for me… all we need is for one of them to get bit.

I was thinking out loud, “what can we do… to make that corner he is set on glueing himself to less safe and appealing??? I suddenly blurted out… “ack, peppermint oil! That’s suppose to repel rodents.” peppermint-1

So we took the old fishing rod (long, thin and flexible) and fashioned a cotton ball on the end of it scotch taping it in place and I put about 20 drops of peppermint oil on the cotton ball. Yes, it was potent!

Curt guided the tip of the fishing rod back into the corner without bumping the squirrel with the peppermint drenched cotton ball and there we waited. The three of us spoke softly, waiting and wondering if it would work – if so, how long would it take.

With our flashlight shining into the corner we could clearly see that the little guy didn’t care for the peppermint scent at all. The corner was no longer a safe-haven. The squirrel slowly came to the opening in the wall, stuck his head slightly into the live trap to examine, checking it out to see if it was safer than being in what was now an inhospitable corner.

We watched and watched as he thought about making a move into the trap. Then, he jumped in the trap! Darn, the door didn’t trip and he quick as a shot went back into the wall when we manually tried to spring it.

We could see he clearly was NOT going to stay in the wall for long with that peppermint. Just a few minutes later, he made his way back into the trap, this time the door sprang shut. Finally!

I highly recommend getting creative with your Young Living peppermint essential oil whenever you find squirrels, mice or other rodents in your home!

They say ‘one drop’ of Young Living peppermint oil equals about 28 cups of peppermint tea, so with my putting about 20 drops on this cotton ball, holey smokes was it ever strong smelling! Good smelling but strong.

If your lawn is infested with moles or voles you may want to try dropping some peppermint soaked cotton balls in their holes and see if it works on them too… (grinning) and keep an eye on your next door neighbors lawn and see if the rodents take up residency there!

pets-animals-cat-dogDog and cat lovers want to do the best for their pets. Some of us spoil our pets more then others, like ordering natural foods and meats, that come delivered right to their home.  I’ve even watched programs where ones pet eats better then they do.  That’s a bit over the top as far as my way of thinking goes, but whatever works for each of us, to help us feel we are doing the best for our pets, well that’s what’s important.

We also want to try to take care of our pet’s health problems.  Many of us would prefer not using drugs on our pets and instead we are in search of pure and natural products that are healthier for them. From shampoos and flea and parasite medicines, to pain relief and even anxiety relief.  We just want our pets to be comfortable and happy, just like they make us feel.

Not only is it good to feed our pets well, but it is also important to give them pure water, just like what we drink.  Many times if they are drinking the water that comes from the faucet, which in many homes has chlorine in the water, this can lead to skin problems, which causes itching and the scratching can lead to more discomfort for them.  So remember when filling their water bowl, to use purified or filtered water.

When applying essential oils to pets it is important to use quality therapeutic-grade essential oils and  it is always best to use less then more.  Always mix what ever oil you are using, with at least 1/8-1/4 teaspoon of a pure olive oil or V6 Mixing Oil and apply to the pads of their feet.  Of course be sure to stay away from their eyes.

If you have a pet that is “jittery”, either from noises, like thunder, or when they are around people, or if they are afraid to have a bath, there are a few oils that may be good for calming them and ourselves too.  Lavender and the blend of RutaVala are excellent.  RuatVala is a blend of Ruta graveolens (rue) oil, valeriana officinalis (valerian) root oil, and lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil.   Diffusing Valerian may be a big help too.

What I do is is put a drop or two of the essential oil in the palm of my hand and rub my hands together.  Kneeling down by the animal, I then let them get comfortable and smell my hands and let them get used to the scent.  I then would give them a nice petting.  Next I would put a few more drops in the palm of my hand and rub the oil onto the pads of their feet and also massage the tips of their ears. I find this always does the trick on calming my animals.*

Allergies can be caused from fleas, food, and reaction to the environment like from walking on lawns that have been fertilized. Or even from household cleaners, such as floor and carpet cleaners.  A very gentle essential oil to use for allergies would be lavender.*  Once again you would want to mix 1-2 drops with 1/8-1/4 teaspoon of pure olive oil or V6 Mixing Oil and rub onto the pads of their feet.  You can also put 1-2 drops on the skin and seal it with Animal Scents Ointment.  V6 Mixing Oil Ingredients: Fractionated Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Sesamum Indicum‡ (Sesame) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, and Olea Europaea‡ (Olive) Fruit Oil. animal_scents-pets-dog-cat

Animal Scents Shampoo

Use Animal Scents Shampoo every time you give your pet a bath.  It is free of any bad ingredients. The ingredients are:  Demineralized water, saponified oils of coconut and olive, Animal Scents† Shampoo Essential Oil Complex [citronella (Cymbopogon nardus)†, lavandin (Lavandula x hybrida)†, lemon (Citrus limon)†, geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)† and spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi)†] vegetable gum, aloe vera and rosemary extract.

For a flea bath add 1-2 drops of each of these oils to the Animal Scents Shampoo:

Citronella, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Melrose and Pine

If your pet has fleas wouldn’t you rather have a product for your pets that is free of toxins and chemicals?  That’s where Young Livings quality therapeutic-grade essential oils come in.  For my cat I use either Palo Santo or the blend of Purification.  Ingredients of Purification: Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), Melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia) lavandin (Lavandula x hybrida), and myrtle (Myrtus communis). I put 1 drop in the palm of my hand and rub my hands together, then I rub the back of his neck and also the bottoms of his feet.

I also have a glass spray bottle with 8 ounces of purified water with1-2 drops of each these oils:

Eucalyptus, Orange, Citronella, Cedarwood

Shake well and spray all over their body.  Keeping away from the eyes is important.  This is also a nice bug repellent for us.*

For Hot Spots (exposed bare flesh)

Mix about 2 tablespoons of V6 Mixing Oil with  8 drops of Helichrysum in a spray bottle.  Spaying the area twice per day, the biting/chewing and pain may cease very quickly.*

Sometimes our pets get upset stomachs that can cause diarrhea.  What I have done with my dogs is whenever they get diarrhea from licking, sniffing or however, I put 1-3 drops of Thieves with 1/8-1/4 teaspoons of olive oil or V6 Mixing Oil and apply it to their front paws.  Within a day or so they are back to normal.*  I also use Thieves on myself when I feel myself coming down with a cold.  I apply the Thieves and olive oil to my chest and/or neck and by the next day I feel better.*

I wash their bedding with Thieves Household Cleaner and during the rinse cycle I will add 5-10 drops of any of these oils; peppermint, lemon, purification or eucalyptus.  Thieves Household Cleaner is a product that can replace all your household cleaners in your home and it is a green product.

Wouldn’t you like to show your pets how much you love them?  Then why not get started with these natural ways to help them to be healthier and more comfortable, so that they can continue to bring you the joy and laughter that is natural to them.

Many of us use synthetic chemicals to deal with insects, which are not safe for us, our families, or pets to be exposed to. Young Living has many single essential oils such as lavender, lemon, peppermint, melaleuca, lemongrass, cypress, Eucalyptus globulus, cinnamon, thyme, basil, wintergreen, and the Purification and Thieves blends, which effectively repel many types of insects including dust mites, lice, ticks, spiders, and fleas.

For instance, Young Living’s Peppermint essential oil placed on entryways prevents ants from entering. Simply smear a couple drops along the threshold. Peppermint is also excellent for repelling ants and rodents (squirrels and mice). peppermint-1

If you need moth repellents for your linens and woolens, you can avoid toxic commercial mothballs made of naphthalene – instead use Young Living’s essential oils. Natural essential oils like lavender, lemongrass, Western Red Cedar, or Rosemary can just as effectively repel moths and other insects, without the harmful chemical exposure.

You can make a sachet by placing several drops of your chosen essential oil on a cotton ball. Wrap and tie the cotton ball in a small handkerchief or square of cotton. Hang this sachet in storage areas or in your chest of linens. The sachet can be refreshed as often as necessary. You can put this sachet in your dresser drawers to keep your clothes freshly scented.

Making a spray bottle for your Young Living oils is a terrific way to freshen air and repel unwanted insects. Here are some household cleaning blend recipes, but you can make your own combinations for insects by simply using some of the above essential oils.

If spiders are an issue in your home, I have always found that diffusing, in my Young Living nebulizer diffuser, the Young Living blends Thieves or Purification to be quite effective. If I haven’t had my diffuer on in a while or when I move into a new house that spiders start appearing and then die after I start diffusing. I find that diffusing for 15-30 minutes a day keeps the spiders away.

Palo Santo is terrific at killing embedded ticks. I put one drop of Palo Santo essential oil directly on the tick and it kills them. I also use my Young Living Lavender Shampoo once a month when I give my dog a bath, and I add to it 4-5 drops of Palo Santo – it smells terrific and helps kill any fleas and repels fleas and ticks too.

Article by Evelyn Vincent, Young Living Distributor – helping families live “Greener” lives.

The other day I was at a clients and I heard her screaming in her garage.  I went running out to see what the commotion was all about.  A rat surprised her, she surprised the rat and she had the hood of her van open and the rat jumped into her engine area.  I said; I’ll get some peppermint oil.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint Oil

What to do when pests are around.  Why don’t they just find a more suitable home, instead of invading ours? Have you ever had the unpleasant experience of rats or mice in your living environment?  If so, you want to get rid of them quickly and preferably not having to use any toxic chemicals.  And that’s where Young Living therapeutic grade Peppermint oil comes in handy.  And that is what I offered her to help get rid of the rat.   So I “sprinkled” peppermint oil around inside the engine, more on the jamb and frame not on any “parts”.  Then I “sprinkled” more peppermint oil on the carpet inside the van.  We shut the doors, but left the engine hood up.

During the whole ordeal her dog, Cooper, was quite excited, because he wanted to get that darn rat.  About a half hour later when she went out to the van, Cooper was calmed down, so we assumed the rat had departed for somewhere unknown.  She had to leave, she shut the hood, started the engine and left.  A few hours later she came home and all was back to normal.

The other plus to the peppermint oil that I had “sprinkled” in the van, was that it smelled great and before she had left for her errands she had felt very tired.  Well the aroma of the peppermint oil revived her and she felt much more alert.

Peppermint oil may help in so many ways such as;

  • Pest deterrent
  • Reduce fatigue
  • Improve alertness & concentration
  • Reduce fever
  • Relieve headaches
  • Relieve nausea & indigestion
  • Relieve pain
  • Use in cooking (wonderful to add to brownies or to hot chocolate)
  • Make tea
  • Cool off from heat or hot flashes
  • And much, much more, so ENJOY!!!

People are choosing “green” products over less healthy products more and more these days. We are so inundated with chemical induced products that are bad for the environment and bad for us to use and to be around. The sooner people make the choice to begin using “greener” products the better.

What people need to realize is that some “green” products can be misleading, just like products that say, organic or natural. If you are looking at a product that says “green” be sure that it is green seal approved by the private organization that offers this certification, Green Seal.

I love having a natural floor cleaner, natural carpet shampoo, natural window cleaner, natural laundry detergent, natural dishwasher cleaner, natural toilet, sink & tub cleaner, that is totally a “green” cleaner and Eco-Friendly.   And all I need is ONE product!!  Thieves® Household Cleaner meets the criteria to be green seal approved.

You don’t have to wear gloves or run from the room after using it, AND you can toss all the other “toxic” products away!!

Thieves Household Cleaner

Thieves Cleaner

Ways to use Thieves Household Cleaner are:

  • Clean patio furniture. Use a ratio of 1:50 and see how clean your furniture becomes.
  • In an 8 ounce spray bottle, add 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner and water.  Keep it handy by all the sinks to clean the counters, chopping blocks and sinks.
  • It’s great to know that everything is fresh and clean and there are no concerns of spraying any chemicals, because it IS all natural!!
  • Mop your floors with Thieves Household Cleaner, they look great, feel great, smell great and you don’t have to worry about walking bare foot or pets walking on the floor after it has been mopped.
  • Wash clothes with 2-4 cupfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner per load.
  • Put 2 capfuls in dishwasher for washing dishes.
  • Keep a 16 ounce spray bottle of water with a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner for your garden and spray your vegetables with it and any sign of “pests” are gone.*
  • Use Thieves Household Cleaner for washing pet bedding.  It smells so good and  the germs are getting “washed down the drain”.  Also spray down their kennels or sleeping area and feel confident that their are no toxins or chemicals that they are sleeping on.. Using natural products for our pets, helps them too to be healthier.

pets-animals-cat-dogI could write a short story on how I have used Young Living Therapeutic Essential Oils with my pets and also the stories of my friends using the products on their pets.  So, I think I will start with one of my friends who has show dogs.  She asked me;  “Is there an essential oil that could help one of my show dogs, who is extremely timid, to be able to perform better? I know your essential oils are pure and therapeutic grade, and I want a natural remedy, rather then using synthetics or chemicals.

I immediately thought of two of our blends;  Peace and Calming and Valor.  I explained to her that the Peace and Calming may help her dog to be more relaxed and the Valor could give him courage and confidence.*  I said to her; “It is very important to always remember to use less oils on pets, and what you should do is first put 1 to 2 drops of Peace and Calming in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together in a clock wise motion, and then “massage” them nto the pads of the dogs feet.  Let him rest a few minutes and you should see a noticeable difference in his attitude.  Next, do the same with the Valor.”

The next time I saw her she came up to me and said;” Oh my gosh, I could not believe how the oils changed him.  He had the best show he ever has, he was calm and pranced with confidence and when he was up on the podium, he stood like a rock.  Thank you so much!! I need these oils!!  And I know more dog handlers are going to want to purchase the oils, so how do I start a business with Young Living Therapeutic Essential Oils?I showed her how to become a wholesale member and to make some extra money too.  And now her “dog” friends are using the oils too!!

On another topic. Have you seen on the news lately how pet owners are having severe problems with there cats and dogs with the flea products that they are using?  Some get terrible allergic skin reactions, some get very ill, and many are dying.  I wanted to jump into the television and say; “Hello!! I know you all love your pets and want the best for them.  This is what I do for my pets, a natural remedy of our blend of Purification.” I use it on my cat. I use one drop for the cat and put the essential oil in the palm of my hand, rub my hands together. Then I massage the back of his neck and the pads of his feet and I finish giving  him a good petting. Lot’s of love and good health to all our pets!!
