LAVENDER: (Lavandula angustifolia) Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Cypress essential oil is very helpful for some people with sweaty feet. The best way to use it is to take a container large enough to put your feet in up to the ankle bones, fill it with cool to tepid water, put 3 drops of Cypress Oil in it and soak your feet for 10 minutes or so (distilled or filtered water is best). Cypress essential oil

You could also make a spray by putting 4 oz of distilled water in a spray bottle and adding 24 drops of cypress oil – shake well each time you use it.

The Greeks used cypress to carve statues to their gods. The Greek word ’sempervivens’ for which the botanical name is derived means “live forever.”

The Cypress tree shares its name with the island of Cypress, where it is used for worship.

Legend says the cross of Jesus was made from cypress wood. It is often planted in graveyards.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." ~ Dr. Seuss

Cough and chest congestion can be very draining and put a hamper on our daily lives. Sometimes it catches us off guard and quickly takes over our ability to carry on as we normally would. It can last for a few days, a few weeks and unfortunately for some even longer.

However one may become inflicted with a bad cough and chest congestion it could be important to remember how it came about, so that you can avoid the onset again. The most important solution is resolving the discomfort as quickly as possible and hopefully without having to go to a doctor.

Natural alternatives and the ability to not have to rely on prescriptions or over the counter medications is one possible solution.  But where does one start?  Most importantly is being prepared and having in your medicine cabinet inventory on hand for the unforeseen circumstances that may come your way, like a cough or chest congestion.

Here is a list of essential oils and products for your medicine cabinet specific to chest congestion:

  2. Breathe Again Essential Oil Roll-On is a proprietary blend of oils specially formulated to support respiratory health. Breathe Again contains four powerful eucalyptus oils: Eucalyptus staigeriana, Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus radiata, and Young Living’s original Ecuador single, Eucalyptus blue. Eucalyptus oils contain high amounts of cineole, which has been studied for its potential to support healthy lung function. The essential oils peppermint, myrtle, and copaiba also play an integral part in this blend.* Breathe Again is available in a portable roll-on applicator, making natural relief available anywhere.
  3. Inner Defense reinforces systemic defenses, creates unfriendly terrain for yeast/fungus, promotes healthy respiratory function, and contains potent essential oils like oregano, thyme, and Thieves® which are rich in thymol, carvacrol, and eugenol for immune support.* The liquid softgels dissolve quickly for maximum results.
  4. Life 5 A high-potency probiotic, and represents the culmination of years of extensive research. Life 5 builds and restores core intestinal health by providing five clinically proven probiotic strains including two advanced super strains to enhance intestinal health, sustain energy and improve immunity. Life 5 contains 8 billion active cultures and improves colonization up to 10 times.*

Steps to follow that may help to alleviate cough and chest congestion:

  • Follow up with Life 5 probiotic 8 hours later.
  • Diffuse R.C. throughout the day and night. Read more on diffusing.
  • Apply 2-4 drops of R.C. with approximately 1/4 teaspoon of V6 carrier oils, both to your chest and on your back over your lung area, throughout the day.
  • Apply 2-4 drops of R.C. to the bottoms of your feet, concentrating on the lung vita flex area of your foot.  When essential oils are applied to the bottoms of the feet the essential oil passes easily through our skin and cell membranes within 20 minutes. Read more on Vita Flex
  • After applying R.C., cup your hands over your nose and take several nice long deep inhalations. (Be mindful to not touch your face with your hands, just cup your hands about an inch away from you nose and face.) Read more on inhalation/aromatherapy

Mothers Day is celebrated once a year and is our time to give extra special thanks and treatment to our Mothers.  It is a special day for them, and we can make any day special for them, but it is nice to have one day to focus on giving them a wonderful, loving day.

It does not have to cost a lot of money, or it can, the choice is yours to make as to what great memories are made with your mother on her day we celebrate her.

Whether you are going to shower her with extravagant gifts of jewelry, travel or fancy cars, or like most of us, giving her what we are able to in the form of our presence, or with smaller gifts, any of these loving ways will no doubt be received with great appreciation and love.

Here is a list of suggestion:

  1. Start her day with a nice breakfast, be it at home or out to her favorite restaurant.
  2. Go to a movie she has been wanting to see or pick up a video to watch at home.
  3. Plan a spa treatment, either at home or at an established spa.
  • You can treat her to a spa treatment in the comfort of her home by:
  1. Begin the preparation of the spa treatment by diffusing Lavender essential oil.
  2. Have soft harp music or whatever is her favorite, playing in the background.
  3. Soak her feet in a warm basin of water which you have added 5-10 drops of Lavender essential oil and 1/2 cup of bath salts.
  4. Dry her feet and give her feet and lower legs a yummy massage with Lavender Hand and Body Lotion.
  5. Trim her toe nails, apply nail polish if she desires.
  6. Soak her hands in a warm basin of water which you have added 5-10 drops of Lavender essential oil and 1/2 cup bath salts.
  7. While her hands are soaking, massage her neck and shoulders with Lavender Hand and Body Lotion or 2-3 drops of Lavender essential oil and about 1/4 teaspoon of V-6 or Virgin Olive Oil.  This may help to relieve any muscle tension.
  8. Dry her hands and give her a yummy massage with Lavender Hand and Body Lotion.
  9. Trim her finger nails, apply nail polish if she desires.

While doing the spa treatment she will be receiving aromatherapy from the Lavender essential oil, which may be very calming and relaxing to her.  To top it off just knowing that what you are applying to your beautiful mother, is totally free of any toxins or caustic chemicals is a blessing in its self.  At the same time you can reminisce about life and share your thanks with her for her love for her family.

End her day with a lovely dinner, once again, either at her favorite restaurant or a relaxing meal at home.

We can very simply show our appreciation or be more grand in our ways, but what is most important is to take the time to spend with our Mothers.

For many of us we are not able to actually physically be with our mothers, as we may live far away. So for sure, give her a call, send her a card, flowers, photographs, Lavender essential oil or Lavender Hand and Body Lotions, or her favorite art or music. Expressing our love and appreciation is what makes the day so very special for our mothers.

If you are one of the many who have lost your mothers, I hope that you are able to take time to remember your mother and give thanks for all you had with her. You too can apply Lavender oil to yourself, by massaging it onto the bottoms of your feet, on your neck and your hands.  This may help you to feel peace and happiness with your memories of your mother.

To all Mothers, may you be blessed with love, good health, peace and gratefulness.

Tinea pedis or athlete’s foot is a fungal infection of the skin that infects the feet. (it is identical to ringworm which infects the skin in the rest of the body). This fungus thrives in the warm, moist environment to which many feet are subjected. The best remedy is to keep feet cool and dry and avoid wearing tight-fitting shoes or heavy natural (ie. cotton) socks.

Wear sandals, shoes, and socks woven from a light, breathable fabric.

Avoid socks and shoes that are now available with an antibacterial made directly into them as these are not healthy or beneficial. (see below for a much safer solutions to foot bacteria).

It is especially important to control this fungus infection during showering or bathing, since the moist, warm environment in bathrooms and showers favor the growth of the Tinea culture responsible for athlete’s foot, see below.

Young Living antifungal essential oils such as Melaleuca or Melrose can be added to sea salt or Epsom salts and used in a RainSpa shower head to create a mild, antifungal shower. Doing this could also provide a cleaning action to your shower stall as well.

Single Essential Oils: Melaleuca ericifolia (make sure you choose this species, NOT for internal use), Cypress, Lemongrass (always dilute), Idaho Balsam Fir, Lavender, Peppermint, Thyme, Mountain Savory

Blends: Melrose, Thieves, Purification

Athlete’s foot blend #1:

  • 8 drops Tea Tree (Meleuca)
  • 2 drops Lavender

How much would it cost to make this recipe?

$1.27 per application

(Note: the cost would be 24% less if you’re a wholesale customer or distributor)

Athlete’s foot blend #2:

  • 8 drops Tea Tree (Meleuca)
  • 4 drops Peppermint
  • 2 drops Mountain Savory
  • 1 teaspoon V-6 Massage Oil

How much would it cost to make this recipe?

$2.80 per application

(Note: the cost would be 24% less if you’re a wholesale customer or distributor)

Application Methods

  • Topical: Apply 5-7 drops to affected areas between toes and around toenails
  • Foot Bath: Daily. To make your foot bath, use a total of 6-8 drops of essential oils (above blends, or either Melrose, Thieves, or Purification) to 1/2 cup Epsom Salts or Sea Salt, stir well, add to foot bath water.
  • Other Topical Treatments: Thieves Antiseptic Spray, Ortho Ease Massage Oil, Thieves Mouthwash (used on the feet), Peppermint-Cedarwood Bar Soap, Rose Ointment

Keeping Your Shower and Bathroom Free of this Fungus

Clearly, keeping your bathroom surfaces clean go a long way in stopping and preventing this fungus from lingering and spreading to other family members. A terrific way to get things under control is to use a total of 25 to 30 drops of any of the above mentioned essential oils in a 14 oz. spray bottle filled with water.

Keep this spray bottle handy to spritz the tub/shower, floor, and bathmat directly after showering. This will give the room a nice scent plus it will help destroy the fungus and other unwanted bacteria. You can even use this spray to spritz inside of shoes.

Savvy Consumer Tip

It is important to know that all essential oils and aromatherapy oils are NOT created equal, regardless of what the label on the bottle states. The fact is, ONLY 2 percent of all essential oils produced in the world are superior quality, Young Living Essential Oils make up most of that 2 percent. This means that ALL other brands of essential oils are inferior, it’s simply a matter of how inferior.

Here’s a quick little tip to help you become Essential Oil Savvy… the following essential oils come from edible plants: Lavender, Thyme, Oregano, Orange, Lemon, Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, Geranium (there are plenty of others but this list is all you need to know to become “instantly Savvy”). The next time you see a bottle of any of these essential oils take a look at the label… does the label state “Not For Internal Use” or “For Aromatic or Topical Use Only” – if you see that statement know that it is a warning. If it is on any of these listed essential oils you can be 100 percent positive that the essential oil is in fact low quality. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about this and it does not matter who the brand comes from.

Why this is key: inferior quality essential oils (all of them) contain very harmful chemicals that you will absorb through your skin and your nose/lungs. What happens after your body is exposed to chemicals is the chemicals become trapped in your liver, brain, and fat – no ones body knows how to process chemicals. This is precisely why we have such an epidemic of certain diseases today. Minimizing our exposure to chemicals will greatly improve the quality of our lives and save us many thousands of dollars in healthcare expenses.

Your bottles of Lavender, Thyme, Oregano, Orange, Lemon, Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, Geranium SHOULD state on the label “How” to use them as dietary supplements – why? Because these essential oils ARE from edible plants. In short, if you can’t eat it you don’t want to be putting it on your body! Additionally, and I know I’m going to sound like a kill-joy here, for the very same reason it’s best to always avoid scented and aromatherapy products, none of them use a superior quality essential oil.

The thyroid manufactures the hormones that help control metabolism and an unbalanced thyroid may causing either anxiety or depression. Generally, the more severe the thyroid disease, the more severe the mood changes.  So, it is important, for better health to have a healthy thyroid.

Myrtle has been researched by Dr. Daniel Pénoël for normalizing hormonal imbalances of the thyroid and ovaries, as well as balancing the hypothyroid. It has also been researched for its soothing effects on the respiratory system.

Isaiah 55:13- “Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree.”

Scriptures: Esther 2:7, Isaiah 41:19, Zechariah 1:7-11

Source: From the leaves of the tree.

Ancient Uses: Religious ceremony, purification from ritual uncleanliness

Modern uses: Thyroid and general hormone balancer, soothing to respiratory system, decongestant, sinus infections, tuberculosis, colds, flu, coughs, bronchitis, asthma, skin conditions: acne, psoriasis, blemishes, bruises.*

Note: Not all essential oils are the same. Therapeutic-grade essential oils are steam distilled and wild crafted, their oils are carefully extracted by way of hot water and steam and they are free from any synthetic chemicals. Many labels use the words “For External Use Only,” which means that they might include chemicals other than pure oil.

Last spring I fell and injured my foot and ankle badly, so bad in fact I was unable to walk for about nine months. It’s been a long slow healing process and about 3 months ago I was able to start walking again for very short distances on smooth ground (concrete and tiled surfaces would cause me to have a setback).

Ylang Ylang flower

Last week I decided I could participate in a local native plant walk, the walk would only be two miles round trip and I’ve spent the past two months building up my strength and mobility in the injured foot so I thought two miles would be ok and not cause a setback.

My foot and ankle held up fine but since I haven’t worn my hiking boots in a year and haven’t walked two miles straight in a year I ended up getting a huge blister, the size of a quarter, on the balls of each foot. Neither of them broke, nor did I pop them.

I didn’t have any lavender or geranium essential oils left (they would have been my first chices) and so decided to try Ylang ylang essential oil to ease the discomfort of the blisters and to help them disappear. I found the Ylang ylang to be soothing and the next day, even though I could still see where the blisters were they were not bothersome at all. Within four days the blisters were gone and it looks like the skin has reattached (rather than die and dry up).

I chose Ylang Ylang because it’s known to be useful for skin, helping to repair damage. Ylang ylang is one essential oil enjoy having in my all-natural First Aid kit. ~ Evelyn Vincent

Information on this terrific floral scented essential oil, Ylang ylang

Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) is steam distilled from the flowers. The flowers are picked early in the morning to maximize essential oil yield. The highest quality essential oil is drawn from the first distillation and is known as ylang ylang complete. The last distillation, known as the tail, is of inferior quality and is called “cananga.” Most ylang ylang is of lesser quality and will not produce any beneficial effects other than a placebo so it’s important to use only therapeutic-grade essential oils and not the cheap low quality essential oils.

Ylang ylang means “flower of flowers” and the flowers have been used to cover the beds of newlywed couples on their wedding night, the scent is heavenly and  romantic.

Ylang ylang was traditionally used in hair formulas to promote thick, shiny, lustrous hair.

Therapeutic-grade Ylang ylang medicinal properties: antispasmodic, vasodilating, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, can help regulate heartbeat, and has a very calming effect of the mind and spirit.

Ylang Ylang Uses:

Cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac problems, anxiety, hypertension, depression, hair loss, intestinal problems

Ylang Ylang’s Fragrant Influence:

Balances male-female energies, enhances spiritual attunement, combats anger, combats low self-esteem, and increases focus of thoughts, filters out negative energy. Helps to restore confidence and peace.

Ways to Use Therapeutic-grade Ylang Ylang

Topical / Massage: Dilute 1 part Ylang ylang with 1 part V-6 Massage Oil. Apply 2-4 drops on location, (2) chakras or Vita Flex points,

Inhalation: Directly inhale straight from the bottle or put a drop in palms, rub together and cup palms over the nose (avoid eye area) inhale deeply.

Diffuse: Put several drops of Ylang ylang in diffuser, run diffuser 15-20 minutes 2-4 times a day.

Dietary Supplement: place 1-2 drops in a capsule, add a little olive oil. Once or twice a day.*

*CAUTION: NEVER take other brands of essential oils internally, only Young Living Essential Oils are superior enough in quality to be taken internally. That is one rule of thumb you can use to determine if the brand of essential oil you’re buying or using is superior quality; look at the label, if an edible plant such as lavender, lemon, orange, grapefruit, oregano, thyme, frankincense, ylang ylang, etc. state that the essential oil is “Not for Internal Use” then you can be 100% certain that the essential oil is NOT superior quality. Only 2% of all essential oils in the world are superior quality, Young Living makes up almost all of that 2% – so don’t be fooled by labels saying their oils are pure or organic as those terms do NOT indicate if it is a superior quality essential oil.

Use Ylang ylang sparingly if you have low blood pressure.

Ylang Ylang is found in these Essential Oil Blends:

Aroma Life, Australian Blue, Awaken, Clarity, Dream Catcher, Gathering, Gratitude, Grounding, Inner Child, Joy, Motivation, Peace & Calming, Release, Sacred Mountain, Sensation, and White Angelica.

Ylang Ylang is found in these Products:

Boswellia Wrinkle Cream, and Lemon Sage Conditioner.

Ylang Ylang is found in these Supplements:

CardiaCare Capsules, FemiGen Capsules, HRT (tincture), Prenolone+ (with DHEA), and Progessence Cream.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." ~ Dr. Seuss

Do you suffer from compulsive behavior or OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? When one suffers with these compulsive behaviors, the feelings are so overpowering that one may be at their extreme whits end wishing, hoping and praying for help and relief from these debilitating, overwhelming feelings.

The typical sufferer performs tasks, or compulsions, to seek relief from obsession-related anxiety. Within and among individuals, the initial obsessions, or intrusive thoughts, can vary in their clarity and vividness. (Read more on OCD)

These feelings could be very deeply seated in the DNA and difficult to treat, diagnose or to cure, but don’t give up hope, continual awareness and work is the best thing to do.

Tips on what to do:

* Educate yourself. Learn everything you can about OCD. The more you know, the better able you will be to manage your symptoms.

* Stay connected to family and friends. It’s important to have a network of family and friends you can turn to for help and support.

* Join an OCD support group. In a support group, you can share your experience and learn from others who are going through the same thing you are.

* Practice relaxation techniques. Meditation, yoga, deep breathing, and other stress relief techniques may help reduce the symptoms of anxiety brought on by OCD. Seek out the help of a Reiki practitioner. Reiki may be very beneficial to relieve stress.

* Try this technique with Hyssop essential oil:

Hyssop essential oil could be an essential oil to give a try, to possibly experience some relief from obsessive behavior.

While there is some uncertainty that Hyssopus officinalis is the same species of plant as the hyssop referred to in the Bible, there is no question that hyssopus officinalis has been used medicinally for almost a millennium for its antiseptic properties. It has also been used for opening the respiratory system.

Exodus 12:22— “And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.”

Scriptures: Leviticus 14:4, 6, 49, 51, 52; Numbers 19:6, 18; I Kings 4:33; Psalms 51:7; John 19:29; Hebrews 9:19

Hyssop (hyssopus officinalis) has a very long history as a cleansing herb. Hyssop is a protective herb of the heavens. It is touched with the love and protection of the divine.

Ancient Uses: Spiritually cleansing, help for focusing mind in meditation, purification from sin, addictions and destructive habits, compulsive behavior; various medicines, respiratory relief, decongestant, expectorant, repeller of evil spirits (During the Passover, the Israelites struck the posts and lintels of their doorways with an branch of hyssop releasing its aromatic oils, along with the lamb’s blood, as protection from the death angel.)  During His last moments on the cross, Jesus was offered a sponge with sour wine extended with a fragrant branch of hyssop.  Why hyssop?  Crucifixion is death by slow suffocation as one’s lungs gradually fill up with fluid.  Breathing the scent of hyssop may have been offered by ladies of mercy to those dying by crucifixion to help ease their congestion and provide some relief both physically and emotionally.
