Reiki is a phenomenal way of achieving healing, and one of the most profound benefits is relaxation. If you have stress in your life, this can begin to cause many “side effects”. The side effects can cause other ailments, as stress is a leading cause to the beginning of health problems.  Stress can cause you to loose sleep, which then can lead to more health issues, because your body and mind are not getting the much needed rest it needs to work on staying as healthy as possible.

Stress for many of us is a situation that we have to deal with.  Sometimes we would like to be able to just walk away or somehow remove the stress from our lives, however there are circumstances that we can not turn away from, we have to deal with them and make it through whatever it is.  This is where Reiki comes in quite nicely.

For those that do not know or understand what Reiki is, here is an explanation:

Reiki is a form of natural healing and stress reduction founded in the late 1800’s by Sensei Mikao Usui of Japan, utilizing spiritually guided universal life-force. It is an elegantly simple art that empowers and promotes an individual’s well-being. Although spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. Reiki is not alternative medicine; rather it empowers and fully supports all other health care modalities. People from all walks of life practice Reiki such as: Pilots, Physicians, Nurses, Ranchers, Office Workers, Corporate Executives, Athletes and Artists.

A Reiki session is non-invasive and usually quiet. You are fully clothed and will either lie down or sit in a chair. The Reiki practitioner will proceed to lay hands upon you, usually starting at the head and ending at the feet. Most recipients experience a great sense of glowing peace during and after a session. Many experience immediate relief from pain and/or removal of symptoms of disease.

The most profound feeling that my clients experience is a feeling of total relief of burdens, an amazing time of deep relaxation. It is a moment of ahhhhhhhh, of feeling all cares disappearing.  This feeling can last and escalate for up to a week.

For my clients I always end their sessions with application of an essential oil on their feet.  Before the session begins, we talk and I hear some of what may be going on in their lives and this helps me to determine which essential oil to finish their session with.

My favorite oil if the blend of Harmony.  Harmony™ is an exquisite blend that promotes physical and emotional well-being by bringing harmonic balance to the energy centers of the body. The liberating, balancing, and calming essential oils in this blend open us to new possibilities while contributing to an overall feeling of well-being.

Reiki is a beautiful gift to give to yourself and is an experience that I hope many people are able to enjoy and to realize that there are wonderful natural ways to help not only in stress reduction but in all areas of health and well being.  I would be honored to help you to feel the energy release that is a possibility through Reiki, as would other Reiki practitioners in your area.  You may contact me to set up an appointment. To locate a Reiki practitioner in your area, google: reiki and your state.  This will get you started in locating a Reiki practitioner in your area.

May you find peace and harmony in your daily life and feel the great joy that comes hand in hand with these positive emotions.

Grief and sorrow come to all of us at sometime in our lives.  They are not times we care to experience or to wish upon others, but it is inevitable that we will experience awful times of sorrow and grief. To be able to get through these powerful feelings and emotions can be very difficult and even more difficult for others.

5 Ways to deal with grief or sorrow:

  1. Talk to family or friends. Reach out to them, by calling them. It can be difficult to pick up the phone, but it is important for you to be able to have someone to talk to.  If you don’t have someone, call a church or a hospital to find out about support groups.  Yes, it is easier to be alone, and that is OK, but not all of the time.  We do need someone to talk with, or to listen to.
  2. Read self help books or inspirational books that relate to what you are going through. Or listen to them on tape, if you are having a hard time focusing. Listening to the words can be a great help too.  Sometimes this can be a much easier way to take in the helpful words.  We may be able to comprehend better than when we read, because when we are in a deep place of grief it can be difficult to focus on words.
  3. Getting out in nature, going for walks, or even for drives to pretty places, can help us to reflect on the beauty around us and remind us of other blessings in our lives. Remember if you are able to go for walks to breath in the fresh air.  Fresh air is invigorating, intoxicating and down right good for our body and well being.
  4. Aromatherapy is natural way of achieving optimal emotional and physical health. The fragrance of an essential oil can directly affect everything from your emotional state to your lifespan. Thus, a therapeutic essential oil can affect our feelings and thoughts because smell is our most emotional sense. Scent stimulates nerves to fire in the emotional center of the brain, but it also stimulates the master gland to release hormones. Hormones affect the fight/flight response, as well as digestion and heart rate. In this way, essential oils can affect us in many ways all at once, just through their fragrance.  Aromatherapy is a very positive way that may help to heal from emotional pain.*
  5. Raindrop Technique utilizing emotional Young Living therapeutic-grade essential oils, could also be an excellent way to move to healing from grief and sorrow.  Raindrop Technique is a simple practice that can be learned and may be very beneficial for emotional healing and physical healing. (Read my article on Raindrop Technique for Mind, Body and Soul)*

Behavioral patterns can be hard to change. When we get in the habit of doing something it can take a lot of hard work to break those bad habits.  We have all heard from many people and sources how to battle and overcome bad habits. The key is in understanding our bad habits, wanting to change them, believing it is possible and to start somewhere, sometime.

Young Living essential oils has over 150 different  single oils and blends.  Their are approximately 70 blends that have been specifically formulated to help with different issues, whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual.

There are many Young Living essential oils that could aide in changing behavioral patterns, or otherwise known as bad habits. The one I will concentrate on now is Transformation.

Transformation™ empowers and upholds changes you want to make in your belief system. By replacing negative beliefs with revitalizing new thought patterns, a transformation in behaviors, emotions, and attitudes is possible.*

Repressed trauma and tragedy from the past may be out of sight, but they are definitely not out of mind.  Memories are imprinted in our cells for better or worse.  Stored negative emotions need to be replace with joy, hope and courage.

Reaching into the deepest recesses of memory, Transformation empowers and upholds the changes you want to make in your belief system.  Positive, uplifting beliefs are foundational for the transformation of behavior.*

Transformation contains: Lemon, peppermint, sandalwood, clary sage, frankincense, balsam fir (Idaho), rosemary, and cardamom.

How to Use

Foot application:

The first place I would suggest applying the essential oil is to the bottoms of your feet. Before you put your shoes on for the day, take a moment to first drop 1-2 drops of the essential oil and about 1/8 teaspoon of V6 carrier oil onto the palm of your hand, stir three times in a clock like motion, and then apply to the bottoms of your feet. With the remainder of the scent that is on your hands, cup your hands over your nose and take several nice long deep inhalations. (Be mindful to not touch your face with your hands, just cup your hands about an inch away from you nose and face.

When essential oils are applied to the bottoms of the feet the essential oil passes easily through our skin and cell membranes within 20 minutes.

According to researcher Jean Valnet, M.D., an essential oil that is directly applied to the skin can pass into the bloodstream and diffuse throughout the tissues in 20 minutes or less [all the more reason why you want to know your essential oil is the purest, as are Young Living Essential oils. Diffusing

You can also put 5-10 drops of Transformation oil in a diffuser to diffuse in your environment. The bonus by doing this is not only may it help you to feel beter, but anyone else that is around may feel better too.

When diffusing essential oils the essential oil is in the air, and you are breathing in the tiny molecules of essential oil and this effect may help to balance your moods.

In a cold air nebulizer diffuser start by diffusing your Young Living essential oils for 15-30 minutes, one to four times a day for normal situations. Place the nebulizer diffuser higher in the room (a shelf, bar, or fireplace mantle are good choices) so that the essential oil mist has a longer distance to fall through the air.

The natural properties found in Young Living essential oils produce a soothing, uplifting effect on the mind and emotions. When an essential oil containing the optimum level of therapeutic constituents is diffused, the result fosters a sense of emotional balance and well-being.

When the aroma of essential oils are inhaled, the scent travels to the reticular system of the brain stem where emotions and memories are connected. This enables essential oils to improve emotional wellness in many ways.

Aromatherapy, or essential oils, are helpful in elevating and balancing moods. Nature has many answers for problems and balancing out emotions is one of them. Therapeutic grade essential oils carry the “life force” of the plant and they offer the plant’s vibrancy and normalizing effects.

The fragrance of an essential oil can directly affect everything from your emotional state to your lifespan. Essential oils work differently than any other natural substance.

Full Body Massage: Mix 4 drops with 1 teaspoon V-6 Massage Oil.

In the Bath: Mix 4 drops with 1/4 cup Epsom Salts or Sea Salt, add to running bath water.

Take one day at a time. Work on today to begin to put your past behavioral problems where they belong, in the past. Do not fret about them, or the past and do not worry about the future. We can not control our past or our future but we can work on today and make our daily goals a focus of change.  Here’s to kicking those bad habits right out the door.

Anger is a normal emotion that is familiar to most of us. It can be a very uncomfortable feeling and a powerful signal that something is wrong. The feeling of anger can consume you and that is why it is important that you know how to handle it and get it under control.

Some people use drugs and other chemicals to deal with anger. These drugs have unknown side effects, and they can occasionally become a negative impact on the mind.

Essential oils may help you overcome anger in your life, and give you a boost in attitude and a complete overhaul in how you view your life.  And essential oils are a natural alternative and healthier way of healing.

When we have an emotional situation come up, instead of being overwhelmed by it, we can diffuse essential oils, put them in our bath, wear them as a cologne or perfume and even use them as an air freshener.   Aromatherapy is completely natural and has been used for thousands of years and aromatherapy may enhance health and mood through the use of concentrated plant extracts.  The essential oil molecules will absorb into the bloodstream and from the nasal and buccal cavity to the limbic system. They will activate the amygdala (the memory center for fear and trauma), sedate and relax the sympathetic/parasympathetic system.

Because essential oils affect the amygdala and pineal gland in the brain, they can help the mind and body by releasing emotional traumas and other upsets.

Young Living Essential Oil Choices for Anger

Denise Linn has been one of my teachers, a woman who has helped me walk my path and inspire my daily thoughts and life. I just checked my email and this is the moving story she wrote…

What would you do if you were told that you had only five more days to live?
Who would you want to spend time with? What would want to do? What would be truly important… and what would pale in comparison?

I had just hung up the phone after talking to my wonderful friend Caroline. She was vibrant, joyous, loving and filled with radiance . . . and she’d been told that on Tuesday they were going to pull the plug and stop her blood transfusions and that by Wednesday or Thursday she’d be dead.

When I got off the phone I wanted to hit somebody or something . . . hard. I want to scream at the top of my lungs, “Why Caroline? Why? Why did Caroline get bone cancer? Why would our medical system do this?” I wanted a miracle. I wanted God and a legion of angels to come down and fix this. But this was my agenda . . . not Caroline’s. She was radiating a light that I just did not feel.

I’ve known Caroline for many years. I used to spend up to a month every year with her in London, when I traveled there twice a year to do seminars. I slept on her too-short couch, with my legs hanging over the end, in her flat on Portobello Road . . . after we had eaten our nightly India curry take-out with glee while talking late into the night about music, life and the universe. I wrote about her in one of my books. (Feng Shui for the Soul) We’ve spent time together in various places around the worldFlorida, Georgia, Washington State, London and Australiaand we share the same birthday. We used to call each other every April 16th to wish ourselves the most amazing year ever!

Caroline said she loved talking to me because I was so positive. But honestly, I didn’t feel positive. I felt angry, sad and frustrated. But at the same time, I was on my knees with humility because I’m so inspired by my dear friend.

In the throes of this deadly disease, my splendid friend was teaching me so much. In our conversation, she said that she has realized that her entire life she’s been more afraid of living than of dying . . . and that now . . . she’s finally living. She’s also realized that truly the only thing that matters is joy . . . and she said that she’s feeling more joy that she ever has in her life.

“Denise, what do you do when you’re told that you only have a few days to live?”

I answered that I wasn’t sure.

She said, “It makes every moment precious. When I go to the toilet, I know that there is only a limited number of times that I will be able to do that . . . and it makes it a ’sacred toilet moment’. When I go to sleep, this makes it a ’sacred sleeping moment’. Every bit of food, every conversation, and every moment . . . no matter how seemingly mundane, is precious. I’m cherishing it all. Really we should always be doing this.”

We talked about the power of the present moment (and not re-hashing past and not worrying about the future) It’s so truewhat’s important is just being present in this moment now. In truth, nothing else exists but this splendid glorious moment now.

Our conversation made me think of the Charles Schultz Philosophy. Here it is: (You don’t have to actually answer the questions. You’ll get the point by just reading them.)

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Contest.

4. Name five people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor & actress.

6. Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, most of us don’t remember the headliners of yesterday. These are not second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But achievements are forgotten. Accolades fade way.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers or people who aided your journey through life.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

It’s much easier isn’t it? The moral is that the people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that you love and that love you.

There are so many people that I love, and I’m assuming that you wouldn’t be getting this newsletter, if you weren’t my “peep,” so I’m sending you immense love in this moment. I love you. Please remember to relish EVERY moment no matter what is occurring, it is all sacred and precious. (Thank you Caroline for helping me remember this!!!)

Love deeply. Love NOW!! You never know when your last breath, last rainbow, last chance to say “I love you” will be.

I love you . . . you have my love and support always and forever,

p.s. A follow-up: In a following phone call, Caroline told me that she wasn’t afraid of dying, but she preferred not to be told the day of her demise and wanted to live longer than Thursday. I love my friend and wanted to do what ever I could to support her, so I appealed to my wonderful community on Facebook for help. (If you are not my friend yet, there please join me. It would be splendid to have you!) We started a letter writing campaign and the miracle that I pleaded the heavens for occurred. Caroline has had her treatment extended. She has been told that she now has months to live, during which time she can examine her options. Life is good!!!! I’m high fiving the heavens.

I was deeply moved and touched by reading this in Denise’s newsletter. I  hope that her words can be of benefit to you too.

In a previous article I wrote, The A to Z of Using Essential Oils for Emotional Release that readers may find useful during challenging times.

Happiness can be a feeling that is in the shadows of many peoples emotions.  At times when we feel depressed, angry or uncertain about life, sadness takes over. When this feeling has overtaken us it is hard to even want to think about changing our feeling, as we are so consumed with our negative thoughts, and that is all we think about.  This can be very hard to turn around and when these feelings are upon us, we don’t even care much about making them go away.

What’s important for anyone who may be feeling this way is to realize that it is possible to feel better and what it takes is change of thought and also the remarkable therapeutic power of plants and nature’s healing powers through therapeutic grade essential oils.

Here are steps toward feeling happy:

  1. Take a moment to recognize your feelings.
  2. Believe you can change your feelings to happiness and positive energy.
  3. Choose a Young Living Essential oil for what ever emotion you are feeling at the moment.

What do I mean by “Choose a Young Living Essential oil for what ever emotion you are feeling at the moment.”?

  1. If you are feeling sad, you may want to choose Joy oil blend.
  2. If you are feeling anger, you may want to choose Forgiveness or Release oil blend.
  3. If you are feeling stress, you may want to choose Peace & Calming blend.
  4. If you are feeling lousy but can’t seem to pin point your emotion, you may want to choose Lavender or Harmony oil blend.
  5. If you are feeling unmotivated, you may want to choose Motivation oil blend.

These are some choices of oils that may help in times when you are feeling despair for whatever reason. They could be enhanced with topping off with the essential oil blend of Believe.

The next step after determining your choice of essential oil is what to do with it, how to use it so that you are able to begin to feel better.

All of the Young Living essential oils I have mentioned above, may be applied topically, by inhalation or by diffusing them.

Foot application:

The first place I would suggest applying the essential oil is to the bottoms of your feet. For instance, if you wake up in the morning feeling sad or not in a very good mood, before you put your shoes on for the day, take a moment to apply 1-2 drops of Joy oil to the bottoms of your feet.  With the remainder of the scent that is on your hands, cup your hands over your nose and take several nice long deep inhalations. (Keep hands away from touching the skin on your face.)

Read more on quality]

Diffusing

You can also put 10-15 drops of Joy oil in a diffuser to diffuse in your environment.  The bonus by doing this is not only may it help you to feel more joyful, but anyone else that is around may feel better too.

When diffusing essential oils the essential oil is in the air, and you are breathing in the tiny molecules of essential oil.  This effect may help to balance your moods.

(Read more on diffusing)

The natural properties found in Young Living essential oils produce a soothing, uplifting effect on the mind and emotions. When an essential oil containing the optimum level of therapeutic constituents is diffused, the result fosters a sense of emotional balance and well being.

When the aroma of essential oils is inhaled, the scent travels to the reticular system of the brain stem where emotions and memories are connected.

Recap

  1. Recognize your feelings.
  2. Believe you can change your feelings.
  3. Choose a Young Living Essential oil.
  4. Apply essential oil to the bottoms of your feet.
  5. Inhale essential oil scent from hands.
  6. Diffuse essential oils.
  7. Feel the difference.

If you need any help in deciding which oils to order PLEASE feel free to contact me as I would be very happy to help you towards understanding how it is possible to feel happier and to be blessed with greater well being.

Our emotions need improvements, and often times it may be difficult understanding how  to go about changing how negative emotions are effecting our overall mood. We are all familiar with making home improvements when they are needed.  What about emotional improvements? Emotional home improvement, this is another way of looking at, and understanding our emotions.

Emotions are triggered by many situations, from someones actions towards us, the media, loss, stress, the weather, disappointment, trauma and the list goes on. We can feel hurt, sad, angry, lonely, fearful, ungrateful, worried, confused, or unloved. So what are some easy ways to turn our emotions around?

Here are a few steps that may help in getting started recognizing a negative, unhealthy emotion. Once we begin to recognize them, the next step is understanding the type of emotion, so that we can determine how to help begin to feel better and more positive.

  1. Recognizing a negative emotion.
  2. Realizing our emotions are indeed in need of improvement.
  3. Taking time to turn negative emotions into positive emotions.
  4. Understanding that each emotion may need a different approach in correcting it.

The next step towards this new positive change, is with Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils. Young Living essential oils give you the results and true therapy your body needs. Essential oils are the only substance on earth to support the entire body, and once a therapeutic-grade essential oil is applied to the body, whether by inhalation, ingestion, or topical application to the skin, the essential oil enters the bloodstream. The essential oil is then metabolized and chemically changed quite rapidly, but during this period a multitude of therapeutic effects are possible. The effect we are looking for here is to correct our emotions.

There are many emotions to deal with, but I am going to write about what to do for sadness.  Young Living has several different essential oils that may help to alleviate the feeling of sadness and the one that I most often use and find lifts my spirits is Joy.

This is what I do with Joy:

  • Apply 2-3 drops to the bottoms of each of my feet.
  • Inhale the scent from my hands, by cupping my hands over my nose. Taking several long inhalations.
  • Diffuse Joy essential oil blend in my diffuser throughout the day for 15 minuets at a time. Not only are my spirits lifted, but the aroma in the room is a beautiful floral scent.

I find that the effects of Joy oil lifting my spirits is within seconds and I am always thankful that I am feeling better and thrilled with the amazing quickness that essential oils help.

Diffusing or directly inhaling essential oils can have an immediate positive impact on mood.  Olfaction is the only sense that can have direct effects on the limbic region of the brain.

Essential oils operate by interacting with the cells of the ‘olfactory‘ system, where upon reaching a membrane inside and at the very top of the nose after inhalation. The interaction of natural fragrant molecules on the olfactory membrane initiates a nerve signal that can quickly trigger various parts of the brain to respond – invoking a memory, a feeling, calming, alertness, reduced anxiety, or simply the perception of a scent.

Here are other essential oils which may be beneficial in help alleviating sadness:

  1. Cedarwood
  2. Lemon
  3. Jasmine
  4. Frankincense
  5. Peppermint
  6. Valor blend
  7. Hope blend

Clinical studies at the Department of Psychiatry at the Mie University of Medicine showed that lemon not only reduced depression but reduced stress when inhales.(1)

Young Living essential oils are a much better alternative therapy for many situations. Isn’t it better knowing that you are being helped with a natural substance, a quality essential oil from Young Living, rather then taking medications that can also cause adverse effects and more problems.

Are you ready to now make your emotional “home” improvements? This is the right place for you to accomplish a healthier, happier feeling from the inside out.  I look forward to hearing from you, please do not hesitate to contact me, so that I can help you to choose the essential oil that may help you to feel better emotionally.

Orange essential oil is uplifting and helps to reduce anxiety and stress. A 1995 Mie University study found citrus fragrances boosted immunity, induced relaxation and reduced depression. This is particularly good for those in geographical locations that lack sunshine and don’t get adequate sunlight on a regular basis or rooms without much light, diffusing orange essential oil is great for helping with depression and seasonal affective disorder. Orange essential oil is very warming oil both physically and emotionally.

Orange helps to stimulate joy, optimism and playfulness, harmonizing feelings and awakening to creativity. It’s wonderful to diffuse and use for household cleaning for both children and for adults particularly during times when you may feel tense, nervous and withdrawn and need help to relax and open up.

The fruit of Citrus sinensis is called sweet orange to distinguish it from Citrus aurantium, the bitter orange. Sweet Orange essential oil is produced by glands inside the rind of an orange fruit. This can be seen when an orange is peeled, the fine mist that sprays into the air emitting that delicious orange scent is the essential oil. The orange peels are cold-pressed to extract the essential oil. Young Living’s orange essential oil is food grade and can be used as a flavoring of food and drinks, as seen below. While orange essential oils fragrance in perfumes and aromatherapy by massage therapists and other health professionals provides emotional and physical benefit.

Benefits of Orange Essential Oil

  • Orange can help reduce fluid retention, overcomes sadness, calming to children, aid digestion, mouth ulcers and gas.
  • Orange essential oil can stimulate sensuality and pleasure… especially when combined with ylang ylang essential oil. Diffusing orange and Ylang Ylang essential oils together can be a quite alluring and sensual scent.
  • Affect on the psyche: The aroma of therapeutic essential oils triggers physiological and psychological responses through the olfactory response. They can lift our moods, aid in fighting mild to moderate depression, increase alertness, calm aggressive behavior, and help to deal with emotional trauma. Essential oils can also lower anxiety, increase memory, and even affect our dreams (using one of the recipes below and used in a spray bottle can also help frighten away monsters under the bed at night).
  • Oils such as: lavender, orange, bergamot, rose, jasmine
  • Support urinary system: The eighth edition of Useful Drugs, published by the American Medical Association in 1930, listed a number of essential oils that were rubbed into the kidney area or taken internally (1-2 drops) to help with common urinary, kidney, and bladder infections. Oils known for urinary support are: orange, oregano, tea tree (not for internal use), juniper, rosemary. See list of therapeutic-grade essential oils that are safe for internal use.
  • Alertness and focus: The greatest fears of the aging population are the loss of mind, forgetfulness, or dementia. Diffusing Orange Essential Oil

The easiest and simplest way of putting essential oils into the air for inhalation is to use an aromatic diffuser. A cold air diffuser uses room-temperature air to blow the oil up against some kind of nebulizer. This breaks the oils up into a micro-fine mist that is then dispersed into the air. The oils, with their oxygenating molecules, will then remain suspended for several hours to freshen and improve the quality of the air. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of the oils kill bacteria and help reduce fungus and mold. Essential oils, when diffused, have been found to reduce the amount of airborne chemicals and metallic’s as well as help to create greater spiritual, physical, and emotional harmony.

Diffuse for 10 minutes every 1-3 hours. This will help you to conserve your therapeutic-grade essential oils and provide the best olfactory benefits.
