Air Freshener

You are currently browsing the archive for the Air Freshener category.

Many air fresheners that are purchased in stores are most likely loaded with chemicals and toxins.  Air fresheners that are purchase from stores are used in homes and offices, and what people are being led to believe is that they create a clean, healthy, and pleasant smelling environment.  This is NOT the case.

One chemical in particular that is in most air fresheners is phthalates.  What people need to realize is that when the phthalates are released into the air and inhaled, or land on the skin and absorbed, the chemicals enter the bloodstream, they can alter hormone levels and cause other health problems.  This is especially a concern for children and women who are pregnant.

Phthalates are used in many common consumer products—to soften plastics in children’s toys, as sealants and adhesives in nail polish, in perfumes, and of course in air fresheners.

“Phthalates are known to interfere with production of the male hormone, testosterone, and have been associated with reproductive abnormalities. Numerous animal studies have linked prenatal exposure to certain phthalates with decreases in testosterone, malformations of the genitalia, and reduced sperm production. The State of California notes that five types of phthalates—including one that we found in air freshener products—are “known to cause birth defects or reproductive harm.” Phthalate exposure in indoor environments has also been associated with allergic symptoms and asthma.” Natural Resources Defense Council

What options do we have to achieve a safer, healthier environment, and to have fresher, cleaner air in our homes and offices and to feel assured of being free of harmful and hazardous chemicals?

One sure way to have a fresher environment is to be able to open windows and have a fan going to circulate the air.  However certain times of the year it is not feasible to open windows and if you are the city, the air isn’t the greatest, or if you are in an office, you may not have the luxury of being able to open a window.

If you are unable to open your windows, the next best thing is to diffuse Young Living therapeutic-grade essential oils.  Not only do you get a natural safe, fresh scent, but you get the added benefit of the therapeutic value from the essential oil, and a “green” product.

In regard to what essential oil to use, there are many choices.  Young Living has over 150 different single and blend essential oils. It all depends on what you are desiring for the scent, the ambiance, a clean fresh scent, or even protection from germs.

Diffused therapeutic-grade essential oils alter the structure of molecules that create odors, rather than simply masking them. They also increase oxygen availability and produce negative ions.

A few oils that are nice for any of these choices would be:

  1. Peace and Calming is a gentle, fragrant blend. When diffused, it helps calm tensions and uplift the spirit, promoting relaxation and a deep sense of peace. When massaged on the bottoms of the feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night’s rest. Peace & Calming may be especially calming and comforting to young children after an overactive and stressful day.*
  2. Lemon has a strong, purifying, citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting. Lemon consists of 68 percent dlimonene, a powerful antioxidant.*
  3. Thieves was created based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. This proprietary essential oil blend was university tested for its cleansing abilities. It is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health.*

If you are looking for a natural safe alternative to freshen the air in your home, office, or even in your car, and to aide in a healthier environment for your family, friends, co-workers and even your pets, Young Living essential oils are the best way to go.

Young Living essential oils are top quality. (Read more on quality). You also get the added benefit of having your products delivered right to your door.

Anger is a normal emotion that is familiar to most of us. It can be a very uncomfortable feeling and a powerful signal that something is wrong. The feeling of anger can consume you and that is why it is important that you know how to handle it and get it under control.

Some people use drugs and other chemicals to deal with anger. These drugs have unknown side effects, and they can occasionally become a negative impact on the mind.

Essential oils may help you overcome anger in your life, and give you a boost in attitude and a complete overhaul in how you view your life.  And essential oils are a natural alternative and healthier way of healing.

When we have an emotional situation come up, instead of being overwhelmed by it, we can diffuse essential oils, put them in our bath, wear them as a cologne or perfume and even use them as an air freshener.   Aromatherapy is completely natural and has been used for thousands of years and aromatherapy may enhance health and mood through the use of concentrated plant extracts.  The essential oil molecules will absorb into the bloodstream and from the nasal and buccal cavity to the limbic system. They will activate the amygdala (the memory center for fear and trauma), sedate and relax the sympathetic/parasympathetic system.

Because essential oils affect the amygdala and pineal gland in the brain, they can help the mind and body by releasing emotional traumas and other upsets.

Young Living Essential Oil Choices for Anger

Blends: Release, Valor, Sacred Mountain, Joy, Harmony, Hope, Forgiveness, Present Time, Trauma Life, Surrender, Christmas Spirit, White Angelica.

Single Oils: Bergamot, Cedarwood, Roman Chamomile, Frankincense, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram, Myrrh, Orange, Rose, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang.

Note: all citrus oils and bergamot can be photosensitizing, do not apply these oils on skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight for 24 hours.

Our emotions need improvements, and often times it may be difficult understanding how  to go about changing how negative emotions are effecting our overall mood. We are all familiar with making home improvements when they are needed.  What about emotional improvements? Emotional home improvement, this is another way of looking at, and understanding our emotions.

Emotions are triggered by many situations, from someones actions towards us, the media, loss, stress, the weather, disappointment, trauma and the list goes on. We can feel hurt, sad, angry, lonely, fearful, ungrateful, worried, confused, or unloved. So what are some easy ways to turn our emotions around?

Here are a few steps that may help in getting started recognizing a negative, unhealthy emotion. Once we begin to recognize them, the next step is understanding the type of emotion, so that we can determine how to help begin to feel better and more positive.

  1. Recognizing a negative emotion.
  2. Realizing our emotions are indeed in need of improvement.
  3. Taking time to turn negative emotions into positive emotions.
  4. Understanding that each emotion may need a different approach in correcting it.

The next step towards this new positive change, is with Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils. Young Living essential oils give you the results and true therapy your body needs. Essential oils are the only substance on earth to support the entire body, and once a therapeutic-grade essential oil is applied to the body, whether by inhalation, ingestion, or topical application to the skin, the essential oil enters the bloodstream. The essential oil is then metabolized and chemically changed quite rapidly, but during this period a multitude of therapeutic effects are possible. The effect we are looking for here is to correct our emotions.

There are many emotions to deal with, but I am going to write about what to do for sadness.  Young Living has several different essential oils that may help to alleviate the feeling of sadness and the one that I most often use and find lifts my spirits is Joy.

This is what I do with Joy:

  • Apply 2-3 drops to the bottoms of each of my feet.
  • Inhale the scent from my hands, by cupping my hands over my nose. Taking several long inhalations.
  • Diffuse Joy essential oil blend in my diffuser throughout the day for 15 minuets at a time. Not only are my spirits lifted, but the aroma in the room is a beautiful floral scent.

I find that the effects of Joy oil lifting my spirits is within seconds and I am always thankful that I am feeling better and thrilled with the amazing quickness that essential oils help.

Diffusing or directly inhaling essential oils can have an immediate positive impact on mood.  Olfaction is the only sense that can have direct effects on the limbic region of the brain.

Essential oils operate by interacting with the cells of the ‘olfactory‘ system, where upon reaching a membrane inside and at the very top of the nose after inhalation. The interaction of natural fragrant molecules on the olfactory membrane initiates a nerve signal that can quickly trigger various parts of the brain to respond – invoking a memory, a feeling, calming, alertness, reduced anxiety, or simply the perception of a scent.

Here are other essential oils which may be beneficial in help alleviating sadness:

  1. Cedarwood
  2. Lemon
  3. Jasmine
  4. Frankincense
  5. Peppermint
  6. Valor blend
  7. Hope blend

Clinical studies at the Department of Psychiatry at the Mie University of Medicine showed that lemon not only reduced depression but reduced stress when inhales.(1)

Young Living essential oils are a much better alternative therapy for many situations. Isn’t it better knowing that you are being helped with a natural substance, a quality essential oil from Young Living, rather then taking medications that can also cause adverse effects and more problems.

Are you ready to now make your emotional “home” improvements? This is the right place for you to accomplish a healthier, happier feeling from the inside out.  I look forward to hearing from you, please do not hesitate to contact me, so that I can help you to choose the essential oil that may help you to feel better emotionally.

Orange essential oil is uplifting and helps to reduce anxiety and stress. A 1995 Mie University study found citrus fragrances boosted immunity, induced relaxation and reduced depression. This is particularly good for those in geographical locations that lack sunshine and don’t get adequate sunlight on a regular basis or rooms without much light, diffusing orange essential oil is great for helping with depression and seasonal affective disorder. Orange essential oil is very warming oil both physically and emotionally.

Orange helps to stimulate joy, optimism and playfulness, harmonizing feelings and awakening to creativity. It’s wonderful to diffuse and use for household cleaning for both children and for adults particularly during times when you may feel tense, nervous and withdrawn and need help to relax and open up.

The fruit of Citrus sinensis is called sweet orange to distinguish it from Citrus aurantium, the bitter orange. Sweet Orange essential oil is produced by glands inside the rind of an orange fruit. This can be seen when an orange is peeled, the fine mist that sprays into the air emitting that delicious orange scent is the essential oil. The orange peels are cold-pressed to extract the essential oil. Young Living’s orange essential oil is food grade and can be used as a flavoring of food and drinks, as seen below. While orange essential oils fragrance in perfumes and aromatherapy by massage therapists and other health professionals provides emotional and physical benefit.

Benefits of Orange Essential Oil

  • Orange can help reduce fluid retention, overcomes sadness, calming to children, aid digestion, mouth ulcers and gas.
  • Orange essential oil can stimulate sensuality and pleasure… especially when combined with ylang ylang essential oil. Diffusing orange and Ylang Ylang essential oils together can be a quite alluring and sensual scent.
  • Affect on the psyche: The aroma of therapeutic essential oils triggers physiological and psychological responses through the olfactory response. They can lift our moods, aid in fighting mild to moderate depression, increase alertness, calm aggressive behavior, and help to deal with emotional trauma. Essential oils can also lower anxiety, increase memory, and even affect our dreams (using one of the recipes below and used in a spray bottle can also help frighten away monsters under the bed at night).
  • Oils such as: lavender, orange, bergamot, rose, jasmine
  • Support urinary system: The eighth edition of Useful Drugs, published by the American Medical Association in 1930, listed a number of essential oils that were rubbed into the kidney area or taken internally (1-2 drops) to help with common urinary, kidney, and bladder infections. Oils known for urinary support are: orange, oregano, tea tree (not for internal use), juniper, rosemary. See list of therapeutic-grade essential oils that are safe for internal use.
  • Alertness and focus: The greatest fears of the aging population are the loss of mind, forgetfulness, or dementia. Essential oils have a profound impact on keeping the mind alert and focused. Oils known for these properties are: frankincense, sandalwood, cedarwood, lavender, orange, peppermint, rosemary.
  • May help protect against cancer: A vast amount of research indicates that constituents of essential oils may play a major role in cancer prevention and act as an adjunct to cancer therapies. Numerous studies on essential oils seem promising for specific types of cancer.
  • Oils such as: frankincense, lemon, orange, lemongrass, clary sage, bergamot, helichrysum, clove, tsuga, lavender
  • Beneficial for hypertension and arteriosclerosis.

Ways to Use Orange Essential Oil

Orange essential oil has many uses both physiologically and emotionally. It’s fresh cheery scent makes it a favorite of mine and many others.

Orange Essential Oil for Cooking

  • Try adding 2-5 drops in a protein shake or fruit smoothie (a splash of NingXia Red also adds antioxidants and flavor to smoothies and shakes).

  • Add a 1-2 drops in your favorite oil and vinegar salad dressing recipe.
  • Mix with Ginger Ale and NingXia Red Juice with several drops of orange essential oil for a yummy and nutritious punch for parties. Note: the amounts of Ginger Ale and NingXia Red will determine how many drops of orange essential to use start off with 3-4 drops and add more only if necessary, remember therapeutic-grade essential oils are very concentrated and as such are very potent.

Orange Essential Oil and Household Cleaning

Young Living’s sweet orange oil consists of about 85-96% d-Limonene. Limonene is an efficient cleaning agent which is promoted as being environmentally friendly and preferable to petroleum distillates, as shown in the tips and recipes below. The smell of Young Living Orange essential oil is considered much more pleasant than what is used in store-bought cleaners (it’s higher quality).

  • Eliminate odors in fridge: add one drop orange, lemon, grapefruit, bergamot, Thieves, Purification essential oil to a cup of water. Using a sponge wipe surface of icebox, freezer, oven, trash cans.
  • Use orange essential oil for cleaning oil and grease from your cooktop and surrounding areas in the kitchen.

  • 6-8 drops Peppermint essential oil

In a 14 oz spray bottle, fill with water to 7/8 full, add essential oils and shake. Spray into center of room for a clean fresh scent. This blend is also terrific to use as a bathroom spray, simply use a smaller spray bottle and adjust the number of drops used.

  • Mix a couple drops of orange essential oil with some baking soda to make a paste and brush your teeth for natural teeth whitening instead of chemical bleaches that are absorbed into the bloodstream.
  • Make your own Orange-Scented Dryer Sheets; simply take a clean and dampened washcloth (an old one is fine) and put 3-6 drops of Orange essential on the cloth and toss into dryer with laundry. Note: do NOT use other brands of essential oils for this purpose they contain carrier oils that can permanently stain clothing.

House and Garden Insect Spray

  • 3 drops spearmint
  • 3 drops orange
  • 2 qts water

Mix and spray on plants in the house and outside and in greenhouse to keep the bugs and aphids away. Can also be diffused in a greenhouse (use a nebulizer diffuser and increase the number of drops to fill the well adequately – do NOT add water when using a nebulizer diffuser).

Buy Young Living Essential Oils

Diffusing Orange Essential Oil

The easiest and simplest way of putting essential oils into the air for inhalation is to use an aromatic diffuser. A cold air diffuser uses room-temperature air to blow the oil up against some kind of nebulizer. This breaks the oils up into a micro-fine mist that is then dispersed into the air. The oils, with their oxygenating molecules, will then remain suspended for several hours to freshen and improve the quality of the air. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of the oils kill bacteria and help reduce fungus and mold. Essential oils, when diffused, have been found to reduce the amount of airborne chemicals and metallic’s as well as help to create greater spiritual, physical, and emotional harmony.

Diffuse for 10 minutes every 1-3 hours. This will help you to conserve your therapeutic-grade essential oils and provide the best olfactory benefits.

In the meantime, enjoy reading some really cool ways we use Thieves® Essential Oil and the Thieves® line of products…

Ann has the folowing tip using Thieves® Essential Oil to remove adhesive:

“I was unable to remove the adhesive from the sales and product description tags on two new plastic folding tables. The tables were wet from the rain, which removed the paper but not the adhesive. I used all the recommended commercial and noncommercial adhesive removers, including peanut butter and ice. After applying a couple of drops of Thieves® essential oil blend and spreading it around, I wiped the powerless adhesive off the tables. No more stickiness! Thanks for a great product.”

Jeanne has the following tip using Thieves® Essential Oil on toothbrush:

“I always put one drop of Thieves® essential oil blend on my toothbrush after I brush. It keeps the germs at bay, enhances the flavor of my Thieves toothpaste, and gives my mouth a kick every time I brush!”

Jessica has the following tip using Thieves® and Purification® Essential Oils to clean her hot water heater:

“When our water heater started to smell, instead of using bleach to clean it, we put ten drops of Thieves® and ten drops of Purification® essential oils into the flushed water heater. Not only was the smell gone, but every time we took a shower for weeks to come we smelled the wonderful aroma of Thieves and Purification in the water.”

Jeanne has the following tip using Thieves® Cleansing Bar Soap to remove stains:

“I have a wonderful tip for Thieves® Cleansing Bar Soap. I save the small piece after using the bar to scrub stains on laundry before washing. It works so great! I have removed lipstick, grease that was washed once and dried, and even a raspberry stain. All the stains came right out!”

Sandy has the following tip using Thieves® Toothpaste to remove permanent marker on surfaces:

“Thieves® Toothpaste is excellent for removing permanent marker from some surfaces. I had some CDs that had been written on with a Sharpie and I wanted to take it off the disc and the case. The toothpaste worked wonders, and with little effort all the markings were gone. Just rub a tiny amount on the area with your finger and watch it disappear!”

Doris has the following tip using Thieves® Spray for dust mite allergies:

“I used to suffer from dust mite allergies, especially during the winter months when everything is sealed up to keep out the cold. Now when I make my bed each week, I use Thieves® Spray on my pillows and bed sheets, which helps with my allergic reactions. I also spray the whole mattress when I strip the bed and mattress cover each month. Because I have hot air heating, more dust is generated in the winter months, and Thieves® helps me control the situation.”

Renee has the following tip using Thieves® Spray for ants in kitchen:

“I was visiting my sister out East this past summer and she was having a bad problem with ants on her kitchen counters. They were getting into everything no matter how good it was covered. For one or two days, whenever I wiped the counters down I would also spray Thieves® Spray on the counters. After that there were no more ants for the rest of my visit!”

Sharon has the following tip on Thieves® Foaming Hand Soap cleaning produce:

“When I have an apple, tomato, or any fruit or veggie I want to clean quickly, I put small amount of Thieves® Foaming Hand Soap in my hand and rub it all over the item and then wash it off. It feels so clean and I feel confident it is safe to eat!”

Vickie has the following tip using Thieves® Spray in her air conditioner:

“To keep my house smelling fresh and free of unseen germs, I spray Thieves® Spray into the intake vent of our air conditioning system. I simply remove the main filter and spray several times into the intake duct, allowing the air to pull the spray into the entire ductwork system. Within seconds you can smell the Thieves all over the house. The air we are breathing is no doubt much healthier now!”

Dana has the following tip using Thieves® Spray to keep her vacuum clean:

“Many of us don’t realize how the beater bar in our vacuum cleaners pick up, carry, and spread germs; anything that comes in the door on your shoes will end up in your carpets. When you run the vacuum, you spread these germs everywhere and they find the environment on your beater bar ideal to thrive. I spray my beater bar with Thieves® Spray before and after each use. I also spray the floor of my closet where I keep my shoes.”

Randy has the following tip using Thieves®  Foaming Hand Soap as a shaving cream:

“For those of us who still like to take the razor to the face, Thieves®  Foaming Hand Soap is the greatest shaving cream in the world.  Nicks are instantly disinfected, and the face is baby-bottom smooth.”

Ellen has the following tip using Thieves®  Foaming Hand Soap to clean copper bracelet:

“I am thrilled to report that I love how Thieves® Foaming Hand Soap works for me. I wear therapeutic copper bracelets, and when the weather turns warm, my wrists turn green. When I washed my hands with the hand soap and got some on my bracelets, I was so surprised at how well they were polished! So I put some more foam on my wrists and bracelets, and the green from my wrists was gone and my bracelets looked brand new! Hurray for Thieves® Foaming Hand Soap!”

Marilee has the following tip using Thieves® Mouthwash in her WaterPik:

“A great periodontal tip! And this saved me from suffering from a mouth issue on the way to my vacation in Mexico and while there! Use Thieves Mouthwash in your WaterPik!”

Margaret has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner and laundry:

“As a busy bodywork professional, occasionally I’ve forgotten laundry in the washing machine. I thought my expensive cotton spa sheet would be ruined with a stale smell. But I repeated the wash cycle with a tablespoon of Thieves Household Cleaner. Thieves eliminated the stale odors and really freshened the sheets and towels I used for massage. Thieves is the best!”

Edith has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner for rust mark on floor:

“I was deep cleaning the house and moved a file cabinet that had not been moved for a good while. Sometime when I was mopping, I had used too much water and it ran under the file cabinet. The cabinet had rusted on the floor quite badly. I used Thieves Household Cleaner straight and the rust dissolved with very little scrubbing!”

Jean has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner for a washer tub stain:

“Thieves® Household Cleaner does it again! There was a brownish ring at the water level in my washer. I used Thieves® Household Cleaner, and it easily removed the ring.”

Michelle has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner to clean her clothes iron:

“While I was ironing, I ran my very hot iron over a placemat by mistake. This placemat looks like cotton but is mostly plastic. The bottom of the iron was a mess. When the iron cooled, I used undiluted Thieves® Household Cleaner to clean off the residue. It took some rubbing, but the sole plate came totally clean with no trace of residue. Now, I don’t have to trash my iron.”

Kathy has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner on stained Tupperware:

“I tried diluted Thieves® Household Cleaner on a plastic bowl stained with tomato sauce, and the stain came right out! I always keep a spray bottle of diluted Thieves cleaner under my kitchen sink and clean my entire house with nothing but that. I would never be without it and feel confident that when my grandbabies are crawling around on the floor, it is clean.”

Phyllis has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner on mascara:

“A couple of weeks ago, I was putting on my mascara in the car. (I wasn’t driving, though; I was in a parking space.) I accidentally hit the interior roof of the car with the mascara wand. But I kept forgetting to clean the area since I didn’t see it unless I looked up. I finally sprayed Thieves® Household Cleaner (diluted) on the mark and wiped it with a sponge. The spot came right out.”

Katrina has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner for mealy bugs on houseplants:

“I saw mealy bugs on a houseplant, the kind that are white and fuzzy. I sprayed the plant on top and underneath the leaves using a diluted mixture of Thieves Household spray and water (the all-purpose dilution I use around the house for so many things). Immediately the bugs dissolved (ewe, yucky to think about, really)! I then rinsed the plant with water. I’m thrilled that I have a safe insecticide for my houseplants.

Terry has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner to clean jewelry:

“Keep your jewelry sparkling! I use Thieves® Household Cleaner, diluted, in a small jar. I put my diamond wedding ring into the solution for just a few minutes and it comes out sparkling clean! Use it on any gemstones or gold, but be careful with pearls or opals. The dilution ratio is about a fourth teaspoon cleaner to a half cup of water.”

Katherine has the following tip using Thieves® Household Cleaner to clean up artist paint:

Want to add my two ’scents’ in on the Thieves® Household Cleaner.

I am an artist, well I was teaching a student acrylic painting and was not living up to my teaching- do NOT wear good clothing and wear a smock, well I ended up getting Prussian Blue smeared  over my tan dress pants. Thankfully I have a diluted spray bottle of Thieves Cleanser in the classroom and I immediately went to start cleaning it off. I got about 98% off while still teaching and then ran home quickly and dumped by pants  in the washing machine with two capfuls of Thieves cleanser  and low and behold the slight blue shadow was completely gone!!!

Thieves Household Cleaner ROCKS!!!!

Some of my own tips and stories using Thieves essential oil and products are:

  • Diffusing Thieves® essential oil to help prevent mold, and to kill microbes in the air that cause colds and flu.
  • A drop of Thieves® essential oil on a White-faced Hornet sting – removed the severe swelling, joint stiffness on my finger, and all of the pain in less than 3 minutes!
  • Thieves® Ultra Toothpaste has saved me a fortune in dental expenses! This toothpaste is edible and fluoride free. Can’t beat that!
  • I LOVE the Thieves® Waterless Hand Purifier, a tiny dab rubbed into my hands helps keep the cold and flu germs away from me when I’m out running errands, and it smells terrific! This is a perfect product for kids too because, like all of the Young Living products, it does not contain any harmful chemicals!
  • A few years ago, I was driving home and my dog was freaking out in the backseat, he was trying to tell me he had to go poo immediately! I couldn’t get off the road fast enough and stop the car before he exploded with diarrhea all over the backseat, yes it was gross. Fortunately I was less than 4 minutes away from home. I diluted some Thieves® Household cleaner and scrubbed down the entire backseat and it worked so well that there is no diarrhea stain at all. Between doing that and using the Thieves® Spray to get rid of the horrible smell my car was perfectly cleaned and deodorized.
  • I also use Thieves® Household Cleaner in a bucket to wash the exterior of my car too, it works extremely well… and, I don’t hav to worry about chemicals and detergents getting into the environment when I rinse the car either.
  • Thieves® Mouthwash, Thieves® Toothpaste, and Thieves® Waterless Hand Purifier, all work perfectly as underarm deodorants!

Myself and everbody who uses the Thieves® essential oil and products could go on-and-on for days sharing tips and stories about the ease and effectiveness. This is why I highly recommend the entire line to anyone looking for safe, natural, solutions.

Young Living Essential Oils is now growing eucalyptus globulus in Ecuador and they are finding that the oils produced in Ecuador have more constituents in higher percentages than anywhere else in the world. Eucalyptus globulus grown in Ecuador tests 10 times more powerful than Eucalyptus globulus grown in Australia. Possible reasons for this are the high elevation, and the rich volcanic ash soil that they are grown in; Ecuador has more volcanoes than anywhere else in the world.

  • Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus dives are best applied topically or on the reflex points of the feet.
  • Eucalyptus  radiata and Eucalyptus polybractea are more suitable for diffusing, inhalation, rectal, and douche applications.

The scent of Eucalyptus is familiar to anyone that has consumed cough drops. Most Eucalyptus species are helpful for the respiratory tract and are useful in loosening and expectorating mucus.

4 kinds of Eucalyptus – some ways to use each eucalyptus-globulus-plant-tree

Eucalyptus globulus: is expectorant, mucolytic, antimicrobial, antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiviral, and antiseptic. It helps reduce infections in the throat and lungs, such as rhinopharyngitis, laryngitis, flu, sinusitis, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, and bronchial pneumonia.

Eucalyptol (1.8 cineol) occurs in high concentrations in Eucalyptus globulus and other eucalyptus species. It is responsible for the oil’s ability to decongest the lungs, clear sinus passages, and contributes to a good deal of its anti-infectious, respiratory supporting effects. This oil is especially useful during the cold and flu season.

Eucalyptus globulus is also very effective as an air purifier. It effectively removes odors and airborne bacteria.

According to Dr. Jean Valnet, M.D., a solution of only 2% Eucalyptus globulus can kill 70% of airborne Staphylococcus bacteria.

Dr. Jean Valnet M.D. recommends to use Eucalyptus globulus for: general antiseptic purposes, malaria, typhus, measles, reducing blood sugar, fighting respiratory infections, such as bronchitis, tuberculosis, influenza, pneumonia, and sinusitis, combating asthma, opening the sinus and respiratory tract, removing intestinal parasites and worms, treating wounds and burns. eucalyptus-radiata-plant

Eucalyptus radiata: is cooling, refreshing, and energizing. Lighter in smell than Eucalyptus globulus, it has many of the same supportive properties.

Because it is relatively gentle and nonirritating, it is the preferred choice for children. This variety is one of the most versatile of the eucalyptus oils and is suitable for topical use, diffusing, and even direct inhalation.

Euclyptus radiata is an ingredient in some of Young Living’s most popular blends. A few examples: R.C. (which stands for Respiratory Congestion), Raven and Thieves. These oils should be in your arsenal for cold & flu season.

Eucalyptus radiata is one of the best eucalyptus oils for diffusing.

Dr. Penoel recommends Eucalyptus radiata for rhinitis, bronchitis, cough, pulmonary infections, acnes asthma, and vaginitis.

The first sign of a cold or flu, a drop of oil can be added to a tablespoon of Honey or Agave and taken every hour for the first five hours, and 5 times a day thereafter until symptoms abate. You can also put the drops in an empty 00 capsule.

A drop or two of oil can also be sprinkled on a handkerchief or washcloth and inhaled directly as needed to help with respiratory or sinus conditions.

In cases of serious respiratory conditions or yeast infections, you can do an enema or vaginal application, which is recommend by Dr. Penoel. Add 1-2 drops of essential oils to 2-4 tablespoons of grape seed oil or V-6 massage oil.

Eucalyptus dives: This species is high in phellandrene and low in eucalyptol. It is excellent for use in topical application, as it may be less irritating to the skin than other eucalyptus varieties.

  • Avoid prolonged, direct inhalation
  • Dr. Penoel recommends Eucalyptus dives for: Sinusitis, ear infection (never put any essential oil directly into the ear canal!), vaginitis.
  • Best used in topical applications as it is the strongest and most caustic
  • Diffused, but avoid direct inhalation
  • Avoid using on infants, young children or pregnant moms

Eucalyptus polybractea (CT cineol): This chemotype boasts a cineol content of over 80% the highest of any eucalyptus oil. It is also low in aldehyde, which can irritate mucus membrane.

This is one of the strongest eucalyptus oils. This variety is high in eucalyptol (up to 95 percent ) and is well suited for topical application or diffusing.

Dr. Penoel recommends Eucalyptus polybractea CT cineol for: infection of the nasal membranes and chronic bronchitis.

  • The least irritating yet one of the most antimicrobial of the Eucalyptus oils
  • Suitable for most respiratory conditions
  • Diffused
  • Directly applied on the skin.
  • In enema or douche application
  • Diluted in honey or Agave for dietary supplement (1 drop only/per serving)

Note: Do NOT put any essential oil into the nasal cavity. Either inhale of diffuse.

Diffusing Eucalyptus

All of the oils may by diffused. The Young Living Essential Oil Diffuser, a cold-air nebulizer diffuser, has a special nebulizer that is custom designed to disperse the oils in a micro fiber vapor. This allows the oils to stay suspended in the air to reduce bacteria, fungi and mold. It also freshens the air with natural fragrances, eliminating the need for synthetic, harmful air fresheners. Read more about diffusing

Topical Application of Eucalyptus

All of the Young Living essential oils can be applied to the Vita Flex points on the feet (see foot chart  and other foot care tips), added to bath water mixed with the Young Living Bath & Shower Gel Base or in 1/4 cu Epsom Salts or Sea Salt, applied topically or used with body and foot massage.
