Stay Healthy Throughout the Flu-Cold Season

The flu and cold season is coming upon us and it is time to get prepared for the sudden change in ones health.  Suggestion, don’t go to the store and buy the “goods” off the shelves, instead, sit comfortably at your computer and order your healthy protection products online.

Try these Thieves product tips around the house for protection from dust, mold, and unwanted microorganisms.

Kitchen

Common Sense Precautions When Using Essential Oils

• Young Living essential oils are highly concentrated. When applying topically, dilute one or two drops of essential oil in one tablespoon of pure vegetable oil. If any skin irritation results, add more carrier oil or discontinue use.

• Black Pepper, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Marjoram, Thyme, Oregano, and Thieves oil are considered ‘hot’ spice oils, so test skin sensitivity first by applying a small amount on the inside of the arm with a little V-6 Massage Oil.

• Hot essential oils should always be used with a carrier oil, such as V-6.
Dilution with V-6: 2 drops essential oil to 1 TBSP V-6. Yes, you can always dilute your essential more if you like.

• Never dilute essential oils with water when being used topically. Always use V-6 or another pure vegetable oil.

• If essential oil gets into the eyes, use a drop of your carrier oil to dilute, do NOT use water.

• Never put essential oils into eyes, ear canal, or nose.

Massage and Essential Oils

Massage is a very beneficial therapy, and by adding therapeutic grade essential oils to the massage you get multiple benefits.  If your massage therapist does not stock the essential oils you prefer to use, such as Young Living medicinal essential oils, than always remember to bring them to your appointments.

Following is a suggestion list of several essential oils and their uses:

  • Frankincense – Excellent for increasing oxygen in the brain, depression, opening pineal gland.  Use on brain stem, back of neck, ears, temples, forehead, third eye and chest.*
  • Clarity – Great for mental clarity, alertness, concentration, vitality, increases energy when tired.  Apply on edge of ears, wrists, neck, forehead and temples (Keep out of eyes!!) (Blend of Tangerines, orange, ylang ylang, patchouli and blue tansy).*
  • Lavender – Calming, relaxing, balancing both physically and emotionally, for depression, reducing mental stress, headaches, great for skin problems, etc. “Swiss Army Knife of essential oils”.  Put on back of neck, brain stem, temples, chest, third eye and ears.*
  • Peppermint – Great for headaches and migraines, nerve regenerating, for stomach aches, nausea, mental clarity, stimulating to the conscious mind, curbs appetite and cools down body temperature.  Put 1/2 drop on back of hand and lick it off, c lose the mouth and place tongue on the roof of your mouth, inhale deeply 4-5 breaths.  Place on location of pain or on stomach area for upset stomach or nausea.*
  • Grounding – Stabilizing and balancing to help us cope constructively with reality.  Put behind ears, wrists, back of neck, brain stem and temples.  (Blend of White fir, spruce, ylang ylang, pine, cedarwood, angelica and Juniper).*
  • Deep Relief Roll On - Excellent for muscle soreness and tension, soothes sore joints and ligaments, calms stressed nerves, reduces inflammation.  Apply on location of pain. (Roll on consists of Peppermint, Balsam fir, Clove, Vetiver, Wintergreen, Lemon, Helichrysum, Copaiba and Coconut oil).*

Naturally Flavored Water

Flavored drinking water has been being sold on the market for many years, and people purchase it.  This may help one to get the water intake that is so lacking in many peoples daily lives. I wonder do they read the ingredients and are they OK with what they are consuming?

A much better way and is healthier and more economical along with being “green”, by not buying bottled water,  is by flavoring/ infusing your own water with food grade essential oils.  You get the benefit of good taste along with medicinal value all rolled into one refreshing and rewarding glass of water.

Here is a list of wonderful essential oils to add to your water:

  1. Cinnamon Bark – Dab a toothpick in the bottle of essential oil, then stir the toothpick into the glass of water.
  2. Cistus – 1 drop in a glass of water
  3. Citrus Fresh – 1 drop in a glass of water. Citrus Fresh is a blend of: orange, grapefruit, mandarin, tangerine, lemon and spearmint.
  4. Ginger – Dab a toothpick in the bottle of essential oil, then stir the toothpick into the glass of water.
  5. Grapefruit – 1 drop in a glass of water
  6. Lavender – 1 drop in a glass of water
  7. Lemon – 1 drop in a glass of water
  8. Ocotea – Dab a toothpick in the bottle of essential oil, then stir the toothpick into the glass of water.
  9. Orange – 1 drop in a glass of water
  10. Peppermint-1 drop in a gallon glass container. Very nice to put in the refrigerator on hot days, to help keep you cooled down.  1 drop of peppermint oil is enough for 28 cups of tea!!
  11. Spearmint - 1 drop in a glass of water
  12. Tangerine – 1 drop in a glass of water
  13. Wintergreen – Dab a toothpick in the bottle of essential oil, then stir the toothpick into the glass of water.

You can literally infuse all kinds of drinks with essential oils or add the essential oil to “hot” water for a cup of tea. Some of my favorites besides water are herbal teas, fresh extracted juices and smoothies.  Oh, and adding a drop of orange oil to your whip cream is very tasty.

By ingesting therapeutic grade essential oils you are helping yourself in many healthful ways.  Here is a condensed explanation of how each of the above mentioned essential oils may help you by taking them internally, applying topically or diffusing into the air.   1. Cinnamon Bark – Cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, viral infections (Herpes etc), digestive complaints, ulcers, and warts.*
  2. Cistus – Calming and uplifting, is helpful for meditating and counseling. Traditionally, cistus has been used for respiratory support.*
  3. Citrus Fresh – benefits of all oils in the blend.*
  4. Ginger – Supportive of the digestive system, ginger is commonly used to soothe, comfort, and balance digestive discomfort and may ease the symptoms of vertigo.*
  5. Grapefruit – decongesting and fat-dissolving. It is high in limonene which prevents DNA damage. Has anticoagulant properties.*
  6. Lavender – Respiratory infections, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, menstrual problems/PMS, skin conditions (perinial repair, acne, eczema, psoriasis, scarring stretch marks), burns, hair loss, insomnia, nervous tension, Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it. Lavender is an adaptogen, and therefore can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances. It is a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime, yet has balancing properties that can also boost stamina and energy. Therapeutic-grade lavender is highly regarded for skin and beauty. It may be used to soothe and cleanse common cuts, bruises, and skin irritations.*
  7. Lemon – an antiseptic that is rich in limonene, which has been extensively studied for its ability to combat tumor growth in over 50 clinical studies. It increases microcirculation, which may improve vision and is revitalizing and uplifting. Lemon consists of 68 percent dlimonene, a powerful antioxidant.*
  8. Ocotea – has the highest level of alpha humulene of any Young Living essential oil, which is a compound that helps aid the body’s natural response to irritation and injury.* Ocotea also has natural cleansing and purifying properties.*
  9. Orange – is elevating to the mind and body, bringing joy and peace. It is high in limonene which prevents DNA damage. Has anticoagulant properties.*

Peppermint- Rheumatism/arthritis, respiratory infections (pneumonia, tuberculosis, etc), obesity, viral infections (Herpes simplex, herpes zoster, cold sores, human papilloma virus etc.), fungal infections/Candida, digestive problems, headaches, nausea, skin conditions (itchy skin, varicose veins, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis), scoliosis/lumbago/back problems. Puberty Beginning at Age 7? What Can We Do?

Studies are showing puberty is beginning as early as age 7!! How scary and sad.  Why is this so? Researchers are coming up with ideas of: the types of foods that are being consumed AND household products and personal care products. Da……….

It is a grossly unfortunate situation. It has happened, I believe, yes because of the bad, processed and fast foods that come from animals pumped up with hormones and fed grains that have been grown in chemically fertilized grounds. Plus the large percentage of household cleaning products, personal care products and supplements, that are laden with ingredients that are bodies understand are not beneficial for consumption, because of the chemicals and toxins that are in them.

A little girl age 12 told me (this is now summer of 2010) that girls in her school are having sex at age 8!! My mouth dropped to the floor. Our conversation went on for sometime after that.

Who is to blame? Does it matter? What matters is RIGHT NOW we all need to make the appropriate changes in our lives and to teach our children how to take a turn on the road they are currently being led down, and show them what to do to correct what has been wronged of them.  This way the change begins and they will be able to lead the future in a much healthier way.

Start today by:

  1. Buying or grow “real” organic vegetables and fruits.
  2. Purchase Grass Fed Meats
  3. Drink pure water and add food grade essential oils to it, such as lemon, orange, tangerine or grapefruit.
  4. Purchase personal care products free of toxins and chemicals.
  5. Purchase quality supplements.
  6. Purchase a “green” household cleaner that is safe to use, no need to wear gloves or a mask, and can replace ALL cleaners in your home.

All of this can be introduced into your home slowly.  You don’t need to “break the piggy bank” to purchase all at once.  (Read how to save money) The important decision is to begin to make these important changes and as you are, teach our children so they are aware of what you are doing for them and for future generations.

Our children have been dealt a stinky deck of cards, witho,t knowing or understanding and it is up to us to fix it.  I pray that whomever reads this article will make the right choices to make such an important difference for our children and the children of the future.

Back to School with Healthy Snacks

School will soon be starting and healthy snacks are part of what should be on all back to school shopping lists.  In most cases it is not a healthy option to rely on the school system to provide our children with a balanced meal.  Each day the food our children are being offered is most likely filled with salt, fat or processed ingredients. This is not acceptable in my opinion.

Our children need our guidance and support to help them through life. School can be very stressful.  One for sure way we can help them is by sending them off with a lunch from home, filled with yummy, healthy snacks.  They will feel better and their friends will hopefully ask their parents to do the same for them.

Barbecues and Burns, Camping and Bugs

Barbecues and camping is part of summertime fun. Sometimes our fun can result in discomfort from burns, scrapes, cuts, rashes or bug bites. It can turn into an ordeal if you are not prepared for the unknown. But fear not, you can get prepared easily,  without “breaking the bank” AND with natural products.

Here are ideas of what to do for first aide.

  • Lavender essential oil. Lavender  may be used for many first aide circumstances.  If you get a burn from the fire, or a sunburn from the too much sun, Lavender is the answer.  All you need to do is apply Lavender topically on the area of concern.
  • LavaDerm Cooling Mist. Most excellent to spray on sunburns, rashes and burns.  If you do get a burn, throughout the day, spray LavaDerm Cooling Mist and apply Lavender essential oil. It is best to first start doing this every half hour and as the day goes on, spread the time of application out.  You will be happy with the results.
  • Put a drop of Lavender oil on a bee sting or insect bite, this may help to stop itching and reduce swelling.
  • Lavender may help to stop a nosebleed. Put a drop of Lavender oil on a tissue and wrap it around a small chip of ice. Push the tissue covered ice chip up under the middle of the top lip to the base of the nose and hold as long as comfortable or until the bleeding stops (do not freeze the lip or gum).
  • Rub a drop of Lavender oil on chapped or sunburned lips.
  • Rub 2 to 4 drops of Lavender oil over the armpit area to act as a deodorant.
  • Put a drop of Lavender oil on a cold sore.
  • Drop Lavender oil on a cut to clean the wound, and may help to kill bacteria.
  • Purification essential oil blend may help to keep the mosquitoes from “sucking” your blood.  Drop a few drops in the palm of your hand and rub over any exposed skin and through your hair.  When I do this, the mosquitoes come buzzing to me, but take off before even “landing” on my skin.
  • PanAway is a fantastic essential oil blend for aches and pains.  If you have played too hard, you may feel relief by applying to the area, a few drops of PanAway with a few drops of pure olive oil.
  • Peppermint essential oil is a great oil to deter ants.  If you have an ant situation, put a drop or two of peppermint on a tissue or cloth and rub it on the area where the ants are coming. When they get to where they were going to cross and invade your territory, they will turn around and go the other way.
  • Put a drop of Peppermint oil in a gallon of water (a glass container).  This is very refreshing.
  • Should you get an upset stomach, perhaps from too many “smores”, you can either put 1 drop of peppermint in about a half cup of water and drink it down and then drink one to two more glasses of water.  Or take a drop of peppermint and rub it over your belly.  It will at first feel warm on your skin, but in a few seconds it will cool down.
  • If you are hot, take a drop of peppermint and put it on the back of your neck. Once again it will feel warm at first, but in a few seconds you should feel cooler.
  • PanAway, Peppermint or Lavender may help to relieve a head ache by applying a drop or two to the temples, forehead and back of neck.
  • Thieves is another important essential oil blend to have on hand.  Should one come down with a sore throat, take a drop or two of Thieves and a few drops of a carrier oil such as pure olive oil and apply it to the throat.  You can even put a drop or two of Thieves in a quarter cup of water, gargle, gargle, gargle and then swallow it all down.
  • If one gets a tooth ache, put a drop or two of Thieves in a quarter cup of water, gargle, gargle, gargle and then swallow it all down.
  • If someone age 10 or older has a fever apply about 5 drops of peppermint to the bottoms of each foot.  Wait 20 minutes and if the fever still needs to be reduced, apply the peppermint again.

If by accident one touches near their eye after using essential oils, they may feel discomfort.  Easy fix is to put a little bit of pure olive oil on the finger and rub it under the eye or in the tear duct area.  The discomfort should go away quickly. DO NOT apply water, as this will intensify the discomfort.

Plants

An oil’s potency can be affected not only by selecting the proper plant to cultivate, but also by where the plant is grown, the quality of soil in which the seed is planted, and even the time of day it’s harvested.
