My son was born with dry skin, it is a genetic problem that runs in the family. I have always made lotion for him, from scratch, yet it wasn’t until I began adding essential oils that we noticed a real difference, and longer lasting results. I believe this is most likely due to the fact that essential oils can penetrate the skin at a rate far quicker and more deeply then vegetable oils. Of all the lotions I have tried this is by far the best lotion I have ever used on him, and believe me, we have tried many lotions from the health food stores before I became a Young Living Distributor. There is perhaps only one or two times when I used a regular body lotion from the grocery store on him, and this was completely out of necessity. We were in South Dakota at a hotel, it was cold and the air was dry. His regular lotion was packed away and he needed some moisture on his skin. Hence I used a complimentary name brand packet that the hotel provided. It was supposed to be a very good lotion but it did diddly squat for him.
Years ago, before I started making my homemade lotion, I tried another one that was from the grocery store that my brother said works good on his dry skin (he was born with the same problem). I wasn’t pleased. Not to mention I could not use a chemical laden product on my son in good conscience, knowing all the dangers the chemical ingredients pose to a little body. If you would like to know more about the dangers of using commercial products on children, visit the link at the bottom. I will admit, that although I have been a Young Living distributor for 3 years now, you will be shocked to believe I have not yet made a chance to try Young Livings lotions (we have been so in love with so many other products of theirs that we simply have not got around to it). I decided that this season, I am going to take a break from my wonderful lotion and try Young Livings to see how they compare! I will certainly let you know in a future post how they rate!
In the meantime, I will pass on my secret recipe for my homemade body lotion for those of you who would like to give it a try! I have named this lotion after my son, however you can name it after your family! Although this lotion has not cured my son’s chronic dry skin permanently, it does keep it moisturized for at least a full day and night in the winter, and for a couple days or better in the summer. It certainly moisturizes for the longest amount of time then anything else I have ever tried. I use it on myself and my daughter in the winter and we only need it a couple times a week. You will notice that I use cypress* oil in my lotion, this is because it has a positive effect on circulation, and good circulation is important for good skin. I also chose this oil because of it’s positive effects on the emotions, it is said to create a sense of security and grounding, two feelings I definitely want my my family blessed with! You can choose other oils that better fit your family’s personal needs though!
Body Lotion
2 1/2 ounces of beeswax
1 ounce Shea butter
1 teaspoon lanolin
2/3 cup almond, extra virgin olive, or Young Livings V-6 oil
3/4 cup aloe vera gel or juice
approximately 1 to 2 teaspoons Young Livings Cypress oil* (you could use Gentle Baby, Lavender, or Geranium
Blender, or electric hand mixer, (a hand mixer with the whisk attachment works best)
Melt the beeswax, Shea butter, V-6 or olive/almond oil, and lanolin over low heat in a heavy, medium sized stainless steel or glass pan (I like glass best). Make sure it is the size of pan you can add more to and use an electric whisker with. It is best to keep stirring frequently. As soon as it is melted, remove it from the heat, do not let it burn! While this is heating, have the aloe vera heating on low heat in a separate pan. Once all is heated, place the beeswax mixture and the aloe on hot pads near the outlet you will be using for the electric mixer and begin mixing the beeswax mixture, and slowly trickling in the aloe. By the time you have mixed the aloe completely in, the mixture will be a yellowish white cream. The creamy lotion will continue to cool for a half hour or so, in which time you can periodically come back and whisk it again just to insure the ingredients don’t separate. Once it is cool add the essential oils (never add them when it is still hot, you will kill the therapeutic quality of the oil).
Next, find a pretty jar and use a plastic scraper to scoop it in! I personally like to use saved candle jars, the kind that have the plastic seal in the rim of the glass lid. You can even label this with a pretty label if you want. If you do not have time to make your own lotion, I have heard nothing but good reports on Young Livings lotions. They have Lavender Hand and Body Lotion, Genesis Hand and Body Lotion, Regenolone Moisturizing Cream, Sensation Hand and Body Lotion (made with Sensation Essential oil blend which smells absolutely sensational!) and Sandalwood Moisture Cream. If you try these before I get to, please come back and leave a comment to let us know how they worked! Click Here to learn why commercial bath and body products are very bad for children.
*Cypress essential oil is contraindicated during pregnancy. There are no known cases where using cypress oil or lotion has caused complications in pregnancy, but one should err on the side of caution if pregnant and use one of the other oils suggested.

hunger cravings,* among other beneficial qualities, which I will go over later in this post. I really can’t say enough about this oil. All my life with my battle for weight loss and some semblance of control, I have never come across anything as helpful as this oil. I truly am so thankful for the kind of help I am getting just from a few drops of Ocotea oil on a daily basis.
Depression and anxiety are two of many emotional problems that people deal with daily. These happen to be two problems that have run in my family for generations, needless to say they are two problems I have had some issues with myself. I do not believe that drugs truly deal with the underlying cause of these problems, and so I have always dealt with my problems in this area naturally. Doing so has led to success for me, and although there are still times I deal with both, the negative feelings are always inspired by something rather then out of the blue, and I am able to rid the negative emotions quickly. Below is how I deal with negative emotions including depression and anxiety.

I am of the baby boomer generation and when I was growing up our parents did not have to deal with what we are aware of in this generation of the 21st century. Perhaps there were children then with ADD or ADHD, that were obese or had diabetes, but there was not a “label” put on them, rather they were just over active, hyper, inattentive, impatient, plump children.
