Essential oils are potent. If you use just the bottle to drip them out you can only get 1 drop, but when it comes to cooking oftentimes you will find that 1 drop is too much. But how do you get less than one?
There are no kitchen tools that will accurately measure 1/4, 1/2, 2/3, etc of a drop so it really will come down to an art.
One of the ways to get less than a drop is to use a toothpick. However this will be very inaccurate because it will depend on how porous the toothpick is and how long you leave it in the recipe you are making. It can also be wasteful as the toothpick will retain some of the oil when you throw it away. Well, you can always pick your teeth with it.
A more accurate way to get closer to an exact amount is to tip the bottle slowly until the drop begins to form. When the drop is about the size you need or want, take a clean spoon and touch it to the “partial” drop. The spoon will then have what you need and you can stir it into your recipe.
Happy cooking and Bon Apetit!
