Many use their Young Living Essential Oils to kill or control and repel insect pests in the garden and around the home. Using essential oils in this way is a terrific option for those looking to eliminate toxins in their home, life, and the environment. I personally choose something natural over any form of chemical treatment whether it be for insect control, cleaning my home, or personal hygiene; I feel going natural is the only way to improve and protect our health. The question arises… why are insects killed by an application of an essential oil and people aren’t, here’s my answer…

We need to look at the really big picture here as it is important in understanding why. It doesn’t kill us for a couple of reasons… first, one or two drops of essential oil on a flea or a tick is almost the equivalent of us having a dump truck load of essential oil spilling on us, if we had that much poured on us we’d probably die too. Even too much of a good thing can be harmful.

Second, aromatic plants create essential oils to protect themselves from all sorts of pathogens, fungi, insects, bad bacteria, and microorganisms that could cause harm or kill them during their life cycle. They’re designed to either kill or deter certain insects or microorganisms that could endanger the survival of their species. Even though we do eat plants, we are not considered an insect pest in the plant kingdom, as such they have not created chemicals specifically to kill or harm us intentionally for the sake of warding us off.

Essential oils do not kill the bacteria or organisms that are beneficial to the plant or humans – unless if in extremely high amounts, like in my dump truck analogy.

Additionally, many of the same things that affect us also affect plants. Because humans have had a close relationship with plants and we evolved together over centuries, our bodies know how to process the compounds in an essential oil. This is why a properly distilled essential oil that has not been adulterated will not leave behind in your body a bunch of nasty stuff. This is also why I do not appreciate products and drugs that contain ‘isolated’ ingredients derived from plants; an isolated ingredient works on and has a completely different affect when it is ‘not’ with all of the other compounds that were originally present in that plant. In other words, all of the compounds are there for a reason.

Humans also found, through trial and error, that certain aromatic plants helped us with many of the same types of issues plants encounter, like: fungus, mold, viruses, bad bacteria, wound healing. Because we evolved together, and humans relied on plants for both food and health, our bodies process the plant parts and essential oils harmoniously.

Some insect and mammal species haven’t evolved so closely with the aromatic plants. As such they can’t tolerate certain essential oils or even process them very well, like: fish, frogs, reptiles, birds, and to a lesser extent cats… what do these species have in common… they never relied on land plants as their main source of food or medicine. This is not to say you can never use an essential oil around those species, just that mindfulness to what their bodies can process and tolerate needs to be examined before hand.

Canines are another species that have a closer relationship with plants, after the hunt and kill, the part of the catch which is eaten first is the stomach, which is pretty much partially digested plant matter. They also eat some wild fruits and vegetables, and some protein/raw meat.

Insects often attack and eat plants that are in a weaken state. A weakened plant does not contain all of the normal compounds a healthy plant contains.

Every species is both prey and predator. Everything attacks and eats something else, every species on earth does this. This has kept every species from taking over completely, it’s like a checks and balance system, it’s a natural cycle that is suppose to happen. When this natural balance is upset, due to: extremes in climate or weather changes, or the extinction of a species (which is almost always caused through human interference or behavior).

For instance, bringing exotic species to a foreign country, whether it’s plant or animal; there’s a reason why everything isn’t every place and it’s called ‘community’, as in a ‘plant community’. A community is places, like niches, where conditions are within a certain set of criteria in order for a species to be successful, some species are more particular than others.

We see many examples of an alien plant or animal species take-over when that species has been introduced into a landscape where they are not native. This almost always results in destruction to the native habitat that supports the species native to that place. Some examples of this happening in the US are the introduction of: Gypsy Moth, Kudzu, Purple Loosestrife, Quackgrass, Bamboo, Butterfly Bush, Autumn Olive, European Starling [ just to name a tiny few] have a very real and destructive impact economically and environmentally.

There is also another thing visible in nature, you will never see a dandelion or brambles growing in an old growth forest. Those are species you only find in disturbed places, and as times passes that place transforms in a succession, paving the way for the next series of species to take over… everything is evolving, very slowly over time, adapting and doing what it can for the survival of its species.

The big picture is enormous, so large in fact that it’s difficult for us to comprehend many times. It’s easy for us to forget where we have come from, and where we are going.

It is for these reasons that I have particularly strong feelings why there are certain things we should stop doing and stop using. It’s really important to step back and consider more than just the superficial impact we’re having on the whole picture. Like many of our state forest signs say… “take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.” That same mindfulness and awareness can be put to use at home, every single day; whether it be with using our essential oils by the drop, buying locally, or stop buying items we can live just fine without.

Two websites that are great resources for getting back in touch with nature and living a more balanced lifestyle are Storyof Stuff.com and LoveTheEarth.com both can help us better realize just how much our choices can make a difference and the value of living in a more balanced way.

In short, why essential oils don’t kill us is because we use them in very small amounts, and unlike insect and virus pests we have a many centuries long harmonious relationship with most plant species.

I do want to add… this pertains to properly grown plants (beyond organic standards) and properly distilled plants. This is important because most essential oils and aromatherapy oils available are not fit for aromatic or topical applications due to adulteration and solvents. You don’t want to negate the benefits by using an inferior essential oil. In my over twenty year experience using essential oils I have found Young Living Essential Oils to be the best, they are superior to others; which explains why they set the benchmark and quality standards in the world.

Our emotions need improvements, and often times it may be difficult understanding how  to go about changing how negative emotions are effecting our overall mood. We are all familiar with making home improvements when they are needed.  What about emotional improvements? Emotional home improvement, this is another way of looking at, and understanding our emotions.

Emotions are triggered by many situations, from someones actions towards us, the media, loss, stress, the weather, disappointment, trauma and the list goes on. We can feel hurt, sad, angry, lonely, fearful, ungrateful, worried, confused, or unloved. So what are some easy ways to turn our emotions around?

Here are a few steps that may help in getting started recognizing a negative, unhealthy emotion. Once we begin to recognize them, the next step is understanding the type of emotion, so that we can determine how to help begin to feel better and more positive.

  1. Recognizing a negative emotion.
  2. Realizing our emotions are indeed in need of improvement.
  3. Taking time to turn negative emotions into positive emotions.
  4. Understanding that each emotion may need a different approach in correcting it.

The next step towards this new positive change, is with Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils. Young Living essential oils give you the results and true therapy your body needs. Essential oils are the only substance on earth to support the entire body, and once a therapeutic-grade essential oil is applied to the body, whether by inhalation, ingestion, or topical application to the skin, the essential oil enters the bloodstream. The essential oil is then metabolized and chemically changed quite rapidly, but during this period a multitude of therapeutic effects are possible. The effect we are looking for here is to correct our emotions.

There are many emotions to deal with, but I am going to write about what to do for sadness.  Young Living has several different essential oils that may help to alleviate the feeling of sadness and the one that I most often use and find lifts my spirits is Joy.

This is what I do with Joy:

  • Apply 2-3 drops to the bottoms of each of my feet.
  • Inhale the scent from my hands, by cupping my hands over my nose. Taking several long inhalations.
  • Diffuse Joy essential oil blend in my diffuser throughout the day for 15 minuets at a time. Not only are my spirits lifted, but the aroma in the room is a beautiful floral scent.

I find that the effects of Joy oil lifting my spirits is within seconds and I am always thankful that I am feeling better and thrilled with the amazing quickness that essential oils help.

Diffusing or directly inhaling essential oils can have an immediate positive impact on mood.  Olfaction is the only sense that can have direct effects on the limbic region of the brain.

Essential oils operate by interacting with the cells of the ‘olfactory‘ system, where upon reaching a membrane inside and at the very top of the nose after inhalation. The interaction of natural fragrant molecules on the olfactory membrane initiates a nerve signal that can quickly trigger various parts of the brain to respond – invoking a memory, a feeling, calming, alertness, reduced anxiety, or simply the perception of a scent.

Here are other essential oils which may be beneficial in help alleviating sadness:

  1. Cedarwood
  2. Lemon
  3. Jasmine
  4. Frankincense
  5. Peppermint
  6. Valor blend
  7. Hope blend

Clinical studies at the Department of Psychiatry at the Mie University of Medicine showed that lemon not only reduced depression but reduced stress when inhales.(1)

Young Living essential oils are a much better alternative therapy for many situations. Isn’t it better knowing that you are being helped with a natural substance, a quality essential oil from Young Living, rather then taking medications that can also cause adverse effects and more problems.

Are you ready to now make your emotional “home” improvements? This is the right place for you to accomplish a healthier, happier feeling from the inside out.  I look forward to hearing from you, please do not hesitate to contact me, so that I can help you to choose the essential oil that may help you to feel better emotionally.

Valentines Day for lovers only? Do you feel left out because you are single and don’t have a partner? Are you lonely and yearn for the touch from a loving and caring person or kind thoughtful words to set your heart racing? If you are experiencing any of these emotions and feeling the picture is not going to change, at least perhaps not before Valentines Day, are you going to feel bad because of being without that someone special, or do you want to feel emotionally better and feel your ’self-love’, ’self-worth’, ’self-care’?

There are numerous reasons why many people are alone. From loss due to a death, divorce, or just not having ever met that Miss or Mister Right. It can be a very lonely feeling when one is in that space and especially at times like Valentines Day or other monumental times in our lives. You can complain about the unfairness of it all, remain bitter and unforgiving and not able to let go, that is a choice. Or you can change and overcome and transform those unhappy, unhealthy feelings for better ones. Forgiving someone does not condone what someone else did; it simply releases us from the pain of their actions. It all is a choice and a choice only you can make.

I was married, am now divorced and have been single for many years.  It was difficult a lot of the time, but there were several things that helped me to turn around and to feel better, and that helped to pull me up off the ground out of my darkest hours. I call them my five fixes.

My Five Fixes

  1. My Blessings: One way for me to feel better was to count my many blessings. This in itself got me back on track to feeling better, as I am blessed, and I know that many people are less fortunate.  One can always find good in a circumstance. Sometimes it may be hard to see it, but if you try hard, you can see that your life is better in some way, than someone elses.
  2. Gratitude: Gratitude in itself can improve your life. By simply focusing on what it is we are grateful for we can improve our lives in a big way. I have been starting and ending my day for many years, saying to myself and God, what I am grateful for. I truly believe I am even more blessed because of this.
  3. Make the call:  Call someone. For me this was a tough one, the first time being the toughest. When you are able to talk with someone, it makes  your loneliness more tolerable and you feel the caring from your friend or family member you spoke with.
  4. Journal: Daily writing my thoughts, my blessings, what I am grateful for, who I talked with, or how beautiful a day it was. It is very therapeutic to write. It does not have to be long, it could be just a few words, or you can write a chapter. Just be sure to write.
  5. Essential oils: This is by far a very amazing, rewarding and healing part of my continual life’s journey. I tend to start my day by applying and massaging Young Living essential oil blend of Joy onto the bottoms of my feet.  This keeps my mood uplifted throughout the day.

Alright then, soon it will be Valentines Day and many of us are single, so we need to focus on what will boost our spirits, make us happy, relaxed and loved.  Sometimes it may be hard to think of what will make us happy, so I’ve put together a few suggestions of what I would do.

  • Start my day by applying Rose oil to my pulse points and under my nose, so that I can smell the beautiful scent throughout the day.
  • Get a massage and take your favorite essential oil of choice. (Mine would be Peace and Calming, unless I had aching muscles, then it would be Balsam Fir or PanAway)
  • Go get a pedicure or manicure and once again take your favorite essential oil of choice to soak your feet and hands in. (Mine would be peppermint and lavender)
  • Go out to dinner with a friend or friends and then rent some movies or go to the movies.
  • Diffuse essential oil blend of Harmony to help me to feel emotionally balanced, calm and open to new possibilities and an overall feeling of well-being.

For some this may be too boring, but I am a simple gal leading a pretty calm, simplistic life, so it works for me.  My main focus and passion that keeps my life upbeat and healthy is the fact that Young Living essential oils have been in my life since 1996 and I know that my Valentines Day will be brighter, happier and filled with loving feelings because I surround my self with our quality oils. If you would like to learn more about Young Living essential oils, I would enjoy hearing from you, please contact me so that I can help you to get started with the right choice of essential oils to help you too to have a more fulfilled Valentines Day.

Young Living’s organic essential oils have many uses for those seeking natural solutions to daily life. 3. Place a drop of lemon essential oil on oily skin or blemishes to help balance oil glands and minimize oil production.*
  4. Soothe corns, calluses, or bunions by rubbing 1-2 drops lemon essential oil on the affected area morning and evening.*
  5. Massage lemon essential oil into cellulite to help improve circulation and eliminate waste from cells.*
  6. Add 1-3 drops lemon essential oil to your morning tea or breakfast shake for a refreshing pick-me-up.

  9. Add 5-6-8 drops of lemon essential oil to a chicken marinade for a delicious dinner.
  10. Place 3-6 drops lemon essential oil on a cotton ball and put in the refrigerator to help eliminate odors.
  11. Use 2-3 drops lemon essential oil to make a vinaigrette salad dressing.
  12. Put 2-4 drops lemon essential oil in an 8 oz. glass of water for a great taste and perfect for those watching their calories!

Lemon (Citrus limon) has a strong, purifying, citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting. Lemon consists of 68 percent dlimonene, a powerful antioxidant. It is delightfully refreshing in water and may be beneficial for the skin. Lemon may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods. Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of lemons. Jean Valnet MD estimated that it takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of oil. In his book, The Practice of Aromatherapy, Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system.**

Throughout history and into the future someone will be lacking in self-confidence. Some are blessed with confidence and others are not. We may grow and mature and become more confidence, but for others it may not come so easily and it could be debilitating and hard at times for some to cope with this low esteem.

In my previous article “5 Ways to Build Self-Confidence” I made suggestions of different essential oil blends to include in the 5 Ways to Build Self-Confidence process.  Following is the list of each essential oil, how they may help, and how to use them.

1.  Valor Roll On works with both the physical and spiritual aspects of the body to increase feelings of strength, courage, and self-esteem in the face of adversity. Renowned for its strengthening qualities, Valor enhances an individuals internal resources.*

  • Apply Valor Roll On generously to feet, wrists, or back of the neck. Also apply in the palm of your hand and then cup your hands over your nose and take three long inhalations of the scent.  (Keep your hands from touching your skin)

2.  Joy oil is a luxuriously exotic blend with uplifting overtones that creates magnetic energy and brings joy to the heart, which may exude from you to others.*

  • Diffuse and/or apply one to two drops of Joy oil behind your ears, on your temples, wrists, over your heart, and onto the bottoms of your feet. Also apply a drop onto the palm of your hand and then cup your hands over your nose and take three long inhalations of the scent. (Keep your hands from touching your skin)

3.  Gratitude is a soothing blend of therapeutic-grade essential oils designed to elevate the spirit, calm emotions, and bring relief to the body while helping to foster a grateful attitude.

  • Diffuse and/or apply one to two drops of Gratitude oil behind your ears, on your temples, wrists, over your heart, and onto the bottoms of your feet.  Also apply a drop onto the palm of your hand and then cup your hands over your nose and take three long inhalations of the scent. (Keep your hands from touching your skin)

4.  Acceptance stimulates the mind with oils specially blended to promote feelings of accepting ourselves and others, regardless of perceived barriers. This blend also helps overcome procrastination and denial.

  • Diffuse and/or apply one to two drops of Acceptance over the heart, on the wrists, behind the ears, on the neck and on the face.  Also apply a drop onto the palm of your hand and then cup your hands over your nose and take three long inhalations of the scent. (Keep your hands from touching your skin)

5.  Stress Away Roll On is a unique blend of vanilla, lime, copaiba, and other pure essential oils relieves daily stress, encourages relaxation, and reduces nervous tension.

  • Apply Stress Away Roll On generously to feet, wrists, or back of the neck. Also apply in the palm of your hand and then cup your hands over your nose and take three long inhalations of the scent.  (Keep your hands from touching your skin)

On any given day you could use any of these oils, or any of our other 150 essential oils for physical, mental or spiritual natural healing.

Essential oils are the natural, aromatic volatile liquids found in shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds.  Only certain plants contain essential oils, they are known as the aromatic plants. The essential oil is formed in very small structures in the leaves, flowers, or other parts of the plant. (Read more on “What is an essential oil”)

Historically, essential oils have played a prominent role in everyday life. With more than 200 references to aromatics, incense, and ointments throughout the Bible, essential oils are said to be used for anointing and healing the sick.  Essential oils are the only substance to support our entire body, physically, emotionally, spiritually, or for our social health and our mental health.

Young Living essential oils are very concentrated and a small portion of essential oil is all that is needed at the time of each use.  Once a therapeutic-grade essential oil is applied to the body, whether by inhalation, ingestion, or topical application to the skin, the essential oil enters the bloodstream. The essential oil is then metabolized and chemically changed quite rapidly, and during this period a multitude of therapeutic effects are possible.

Hence the way and essential oil works depends on the constituents that are in each oil and on the individual the essential oil is being applied to.  Each Young Living essential oil blend has been formulated to work towards helping for specific concerns. This is why I am suggesting the above oils. When applied topically, diffused or inhaled the benefits are truly remarkable to experience.

The quality is another very important factor and very important for you to understand that I am only talking about and suggesting the use of Young Living therapeutic essential oil.  Young Livings goal is to have only the purest oils available on the market and the quality is never a question.

When diffusing these Young Living essential oil blends you may experience relaxation, stress reduction, clarity of mind, uplifting, feelings of acceptance, joy, courage, self esteem and much more.

The Nebulizer diffuser is, sometimes also called a ‘Cold-Air Nebulizer Diffuser’. It is perhaps the best type as it is the most versatile for all purposes. The benefits of this type of diffuser are that it literally puts the essential oil into the air in micro-fine particles that stay suspended in the air for several hours. Diffusing 5 to 15 minutes several times a day is a good practice to follow.  Read more on diffusing.

Young Living has over 150 different oils and over 400 products in total.  We are able to offer a wide variety of natural ways to help anyone who is seeking better health and well being.

The best way to get started using Young Living essential oils is by becoming a wholesale customer and starting off with one of our getting started kits.  Perhaps starting with the Start Living Everyday Oils kit would be the way you would want to begin your journey of healing with pure and natural Young Living products.

I look forward to hearing from you so that I can better help you to determine what would be the best way for you to get started and becoming a part of our Young Living family.  Please contact me and click on this link Wholesale Customer to learn more on how you can save on your products.
